Themed restaurants and bars crop up in odd places. Houston has an excellent Hobbit Cafe that predates the Peter Jackson films but would fit right in one of the Middle Earth themes spots in New Zealand. There are a number of Scots pubs around Texas, too.

At the ER at UT Tyler waiting for a bed for my husband. He spent the night throwing up, and imaging shows a partial bowel obstruction. IV is delivering fluids and antibiotics but he is increasingly angry he can’t have water. They haven’t told him it could be a week or more before he gets anything.

Musk didn’t come in on an H1B. He used his mother’s Canadian citizenship to enter the US on a student visa at the University of Pennsylvania, then a PhD program at Stanford but dropped out. He was here illegally for four years, then got a J1, and an H1B until he was naturalized in 2002.

I should point out that Trump rallies are NOT public events. To get it, you need a ticket. To get a ticket you must show some proof you are a Republican - to be on a donor list, have voted in a Republican primary. (Texas voters do not register by party.) so a “paid protestor” can’t get in.

Yesterday, I watched a phlebotomist at a lab in Texas expertly and gently find a vein in an emaciated elderly lady’s arm. And I thought about the untrained prison guard who tortured this woman while a doctor watched. It is horrific not to require a trained phlebotomist to start the IV.

Have a lovely day. Even small things like a day free from mundane tasks is a good idea. My birthdays have been ignored 65 out of 73 years. So I got into the habit of buying myself something “selfish” - a book, a movie ticket, a piece of music. Something no one else knows about. It helps.

One of the very, very few good things Greg Abbott did for Texans on Medicaid is to refuse the ACA Medicare expansion money. (Bad for Texans who need Medicaid but don’t have it.) good for those on Medicaid because Texas is one of 6 states exempt from the Medicaid work rules.

I used to be married to a math PhD who is a top rocket scientist. The dogs very quickly learned they could help themselves to his entire plate of food and he’d never notice. I had to sit with him to guard his plate even when the kids and I had eaten before he got home.

The ancient, desiccated lumps smell awful and are so old and dry touching them makes them disintegrate. Definitely unsafe for human consumption.

Nothing like what the world’s best cookie should look like. It’s so old it smells like the dust under the refrigerator when you pull it out every six months to clean.

I have no clue what those lumps that look like nuts are, but the cookies I ordered - original Tim Tams - look and smell nothing like what this mess does, despite arriving in a sealed Tim Tams package.

This is what a Tim Tammis supposed to look like - two chocolate cookie layers around a rich fudge center, with the whole thing covered in rich chocolate. These desiccated lumps arrived in a sealed box of six Tim Tams packages, but they have to be at least a year beyond the safe use by date.

I don’t order from Amazon often, but as it’s 250 miles to the closest Costco & some things just are not available elsewhere. I ordered Arnot’s Tim Tams and what arrived was an inedible, ancient mess which Amazon tells me is ineligible for a refund. Trust me: Tim Tams DO NOT look like this. #Scam

My husband passed out at a crowded funeral in Panola County Texas and the paramedic asked him who the governor of Texas was and he replied “that idiot Abbott”. I honestly thought the paramedic was going to assault him he was so offended.
