Look at this cool cat faced spider (an orb weaver) constructing a web outside our hallway window! It's appropriate that people with four cats should have a cat faced spider as well.

We don't get hummingbirds here but we did when we lived in the Mission Valley. They were super cool to watch but it was the buzzing of their wings that I found really extraordinary!

Our family cabin is just 2-3 miles from this beast. When it nearly burned years ago Forest Service personnel wrapped it in flame retardant material. The fire came oh-so-close but was diverted away at the last minute. Hopefully we are lucky again. Our thoughts are with the fire crews.
