Today's Rose-coloured Starling at Portland Bill today
Although not as striking as the pink summer plumage bird this pale juvenile stood out from the rest of the Starling flockThe Starling flock was ranging from the lighthouse cottage roof to the Pulpit Inn pub, then the coastguard cottages and then the Bill commonI often couldn't see the Rose-coloured Starling in the Starling flock when at distance so I just pointed the camera, pressed the shutter and hoped for the best

This cricket from last night's moth trap looks like it may be a Verge Cricket, Eumodicogryllus bordigalensis. The 2nd of these for Britain was caught at Freshwater Bay 4 days ago and reported by @portlandbirdobs.bsky.social. We had another in the garden 3 days ago. #Crickets

Two interesting moths from last night's traps, Pellitory Beauty and Dark Mottled Willow #mothsmatter
Pellitory Beauty (Cosmopterix pulchrimella), very tiny, I wasn't sure it was a moth until I saw the photoDark Mottled Willow a rare migrant. Early mornings I just photograph what is on the top of the moth trap and record the moths later. I was surprised by this one.

Scarce Zebra Moth, Helcystogramma lutatella from last night's trap #mothsmatter
H. lutatella a pRDB1 moth is only found on the Dorset coast and Channel Isles. It is similar to H. rufescens which is common in the garden.H. lutatella has white labial palps while H. rufescens has brown scales on its labial Palps. If I had not seen @portlandbirdobs post about H. lutatella from a few days ago I would not have thought to check the labial palps on this moth.

Pete photographed this distant wader near the tern colony at Ferrybridge this morning. It was slightly larger than the nearby Ringed Plover. We thought it may be a Grey Phalarope, what do you think?
