You can't copyright the artwork, but you can still copyright the full book with the artwork included. It's a weird thing in the law. And yes to the taste idea. Some people don't realize how discerning kids are too.

I hear you about the respect thing. It could be more about money. But I wonder about the respect for their own work too. I'd want my work to have the best art I could afford. AI won't bring anything to the table the author doesn't ask for. An illustrator may elevate what I've done.

I love this. I have advocated for students who learn best in a manner not considered typical since my daughter was diagnosed with ASD. What does it hurt if a kid prefers to learn standing up or needs a quiet fidget or can't look you in the eye?
