I've wanted to do my own Sonic inspired game for years and lately have been getting more and more ideas for it, but even that is going to diverge pretty heavily from what I'd want from an actual spiritual successor. Maybe someday someone will make what I want. Maybe it'll be me. Who knows.

I think the issue is it takes way more time and effort to make games like Sonic 1/2/3K/CD compared to other platformers you could make a spiritual successor to. A lot of detailed pixel art, complicated physics programming, intricate level design... there's a reason most fan games are just demos.

Oh there was also Panic Porcupine, which while good (I did 100% it!) is more Super Meat Boy than Sonic.

And like... that's kind of it for the most part? And neither of the art styles had that abstract, surreal feeling that I crave. I remember one that was in development called Kyle & Lucy that actually looked pretty cool, but I haven't heard from it in years.

I should mention I specifically am talking classic Sonic. I've played some of the first Freedom Planet, which was cute but going for something a bit different. I played through the first Spark the Electric Jesters first campaign and it didn't really do it for me either.

It's kind of crazy to me that, even after all these years, I haven't played any commercially released spiritual successors to any of my favorite Sonic games that really capture what I get out of the franchise. Especially given how many fan game there's been over the years!

thinking about how funny the next major update for ultrakill is gonna be because they're gonna be dropping the end of the game and probably P-3, but instead my ass is gonna have to go to 8-S first and play like plants vs zombies or some shit

On the one hand, wow I can smell things like many flowers and candles now that I previously straight up couldn't! But also bad things smell REAL bad.

Death Egg @deathegg.bsky.social · 25/03/2026

I heard about basically every single change estrogen does to you in your transition both online and from friends before I started transitioning and was aware of almost all of them. How come no one bothered to mention "your sense of smell dramatically increases to your benefit and detriment"?

Hey. Tell people when they do good job. When you like the stuff they make. When you like the characters they’ve created. The stories they’ve told. Nobody hears it as often as you think bc everyone thinks everyone hears it all the time. Trust. They don’t. Tell. Them.

Update: she's currently in a shelter that's basically just a place to sleep and eat, and nothing more. She's still looking for work, and housing. Additionally, she now has a Ko-fi and a LiberaPay, if anyone is willing and able to contribute to her phone and storage locker.
