I had the honour of accepting a Climate & Energy Action Award on behalf the District of Saanich. Saanich received an Action Award for infrastructure improvements. The Tillicum Green project helped make the neighbourhood more resilient to flood & extreme heat with social & environmental benefits.

Back then, Mayor Leondard announced the launch of the corridor planning process at the inaugural meeting of the term - the day I was sworn in. It’s fitting that 18 years later, one of my last acts as Mayor would be to cut the ribbon on the completed project. I’m so grateful I got to see it through.

This week, we celebrated the completion of the Shelbourne Street Improvement Project. The project completion is especially poignant for me. The project’s origins date back to the beginning of my first term as a councillor in 2008.

Above the library are 210 affordable rental apartments of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms. Rents for individuals and families are based on income, making them truly affordable. This project is a partnership of the District of Saanich and Capital Region Housing Corporation with funding support from BC Housing.

Redevelopment of this Saanich-owned property opens the doors on affordable homes for hundreds of individuals and families and creates a beautiful new library amenity for residents to enjoy. The project is expected to be completed by 2030.

It’s McHappy Day!! I dropped by the Shelbourne McDonald’s this morning to serve customers and help raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities and local children’s charities. It’s always such a joy to visit with the staff and the folks who stop by for a morning coffee and muffin. What a treat!

I had the great honour of attending the community Iftar at the BC Legislature, hosted by the Olive Branch Revival Foundation. Iftar is the breaking of the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. It’s a tradition of sharing a meal with family, neighbours and community.
