We lost our little mixed breed suddenly in March. He was our eight-year-old Doberman’s best friend, and she was grieving badly. We adopted a seven-year-old mixed breed who had spent his entire life in a shelter. He shows us his love and gratitude daily. It wasn't even a choice. He needed a home.

People are fighting every day. Thousands marched in Montgomery last weekend for voting rights and again in Jackson, MS, this past Wednesday. Civil Rights leaders in their eighties were marching side by side with those in their twenties. This nihilistic bullshit is disrespectful to all of them.

We lost Mr. Chew suddenly a couple of weeks ago. He understood everything. He knew when we needed him, when his Doberman sister needed him and even when our geriatric cat did. He was in charge. After my heart transplant he was my coach, walking with me every day. About 2,500 miles in four years.
