Dr. Victorica Monroe (they/them) is an educator, advocate, and social media activist behind Monroe Pedagogy (@monroepedagogy), focusing on DeafBlind topics and lived experiences. They are the author of Swishing, a children’s book that follows a Black DeafBlind student navigating identity, confronting prejudice, and using basketball to build confidence and resilience while embracing diversity, acceptance, and intersectional pride.
They recently completed their PhD at Gallaudet University. 🎉

National Deaf LGBTQ Awareness Week is a project of the Deaf Queer Resource Center.
It launched in 2018 with the goal of uplifting, supporting and bringing more positive visibility to our multiply-marginalized Deaf queer and trans communities, especially our youth.

Kellie Martin (@kelliemartinart) is an nonbinary artist, art director, thespian and activist dedicated to uplifting Deaf and marginalized communities through art and storytelling. As the business owner of Kellie Martin Art, they create and sell original artwork, paintings, prints, shirts, and stickers, while also curating exhibitions and facilitating creative workshops. With over a decade of experience in the art nonprofit sector, Kellie has worked extensively in community engagement, accessibility, and advocacy. They is Art & Design Program Director at Deaf Spotlight for seven years in Seattle, Washington. Their work explores themes of identity, mental health, resistane and the interplay between internal and external worlds, aiming to inspire connection, empowring self-expression to. In addition to their artistic practice, Kellie actively fights for equity, language access, and representation, using their platform to amplify Deaf and disabled voices and challenge systemic barriers.

We invite Deaf queer and trans artists of all skill levels and ages to create art with us during this fun and inspiring week.
This year’s themes:

Tuesday, April 8: Solidarity
Wednesday, April 9: Pride
Thursday, April 10: Joy
Friday, April 11: Celebration
You’re invited to participate daily or just on those days you feel inspired to create art.
Reminder: Your art should be original. Please don’t use AI to create or enhance your creations.

Can you spot the new character?
Meet Drago and his service dog, Magnus! Drago is the Founder and Executive Director of the Deaf Queer Resource Center (DQRC) and the main driving force behind #DeafLGBTQWeek. After nearly 40 years of service to the Deaf LGBTQ communities (30 of those specifically with DQRC), Drago is hoping to finally retire this year.
With this final character update, this fun logo series is now complete; every character in the logo has been replaced once since the logo’s inception in 2018.
All previous versions of this logo, from 2018 to the present, will remain available for use going forward until a future committee decides to create an all-new one.
A huge thanks to the incredibly talented Carlisle Robinson for creating and updating the #DeafLGBTQWeek logo over the past 8 years! We absolutely love every single one of them! Thank you, Carlisle! 🤟🏽💜
