I hate admitting this, but I think I’m a bit afraid of sleep. It’s not sleep itself, of course. It’s lack of control. For hours, I can’t monitor anything, control my surroundings, or control my mind. I’m totally helpless with no say in my dreams. I know I need to sleep...but I still don't like it.

I just spent over 24 hours in bed. I only got up for water or the bathroom. I didn't eat until someone I love got me up and made sure I did. I don't feel sad. I feel... absent. Like I'm watching my life from a distance. I'm 37, and what scares me most is how much of my life has felt this way.

I used to love my solitude. Now? I mostly just feel lonely. I love my husband dearly, but he works so much that I spend most days alone. My dogs help more than they know, but they can't replace human friendship. The older I get, the more I just want deep, consistent relationships with others.

Got back from ANE last night and I’m exhausted in the best way. Hung out with friends at my first room party, laughed a lot, had some tasty drinks, met a sweet new bear 🐻, and danced with my partner. Just a really good con. I already miss it. Still processing it, but my brain is tired and happy.
