EXCORIATE by piamo.
An imaginative but utterly relatable dystopian short story that is critical, sympathetic, burning, & numb. Featuring casually doomed youths and a hallucinogenic murder boy worm.
Honestly, very moving. One of my favorite short stories. It feels set in a generation younger than me, but it seemed very genuine.
More than anything, it's a great balance of harrowing and playful. It feels really respectful of the various ways people become broken, and how their bodies and world inform their pain, but it doesn't shy away from showing the disastrous fallout potential of one's personal decisions and desperation. I really value this kind of unflinching gaze.
I particularly enjoyed...
"(Thom) hissing like a slice of bacon."
"People were animals too."
"His forehead hurts. Maybe there's a hole in it."
Highly, highly recommend.

Obsidian's Blessing (Part 1) by ArcFlash
A story about sexy demon rites featuring respect and consent but also dubiously manipulative authority-figures! This was so good! (And surprisingly wholesome.)
The character designs were nicely distinct and varied! I really value this a lot in my own art, so it stood out to me right away. Damakos, and especially Dominic are so to my particular taste that it's like you read my mind... And the overall gender variance was really nice to see.
The paneling was also really easy to read/pick up on mood cues, so I really loved going through this. A very well-put-together book with lots of love! I want to see more, and figure out what the church is hiding!
P.S. Everytime you show Dominic saying a nice thing but looking so evil in a panel, 1 year is added to my life!
