I’ve flown to give talks often, even before academia. I decided to count them as I feel the toll on my body increasing, esp when I fly from Hawai’i. (I included virtual talks) While litigating, Feb2023-Apr2025: 45 AY Aug2025-July2026: 32 My rate increased by *150%* this year. I need to do less!

On this trans day of visibility, I was misgendered during a 9am faculty committee mtg, then very kindly reminded the group of my pronouns (because no one made the correction for me) then shared this graphic as a witty reminder. Esp after reading Chiles, today was not the day! But really, no day is.

Conversion therapy—yes, even when it consists of talk therapy only—does harm. Full stop. It is medical malpractice. It should be regulated by any licensed profession that has been made aware of those harms. Chiles v. Salazar shows the Court will not halt the right’s purge of queer and trans identity

We need more journalists who don’t pretend the rising wave of right-wing inspired transphobia, racism, misogyny, predation, authoritarianism, homophobia and corruption is something they should shrug at and say “we can’t take sides” Which ofc is taking a side.

He too, btw, is not journalist himself It’s yet another short step to disqualify queer journalists who don’t toe a political line from covering issues all about us. Condé Nast and NBC did just that, laying off queer journalists en masse and eliminating the v few remaining platforms by and about us

It’s a v short step then for any news org to disqualify, say Black ppl, from covering issues of race. WaPo fired one of the world’s preeminent opinion journalists for daring to quote Charlie Kirk’s own words. In an interesting convergence, the ceo of FIRE found a way to scold this journalist.

The nyt has had a de facto ban on hiring/assigning trans journalists to cover trans issues. It’s been true for at least five years. It’s the exemplification of bigotry. Our being trans automatically disqualifies us from being involved in coverage that is all about us.

No. “Disruption” is an exception to the free speech right in public school, under the standard issued by SCOTUS in a case called Tinker. Legislatures can state any rationale they want when they issue non-discrimination policies. In this context, they keep facing (anti-trans) free speech challenges.

As I say in the piece, there is arguably a circuit split between the First Circuit’s decision in L.M. v. Middleborough and the 6th circuit’s decision here. Pronouns are pending in SCOTUS, specifically a parental right to know their child’s pronoun use. (Foote v. Ludlow). I worry we’ll see this next.

Thank you for your great journalism @walkerbragman.bsky.social ! It’s far too easy for cis judges and their law clerks, attorneys and staff at civil libertarian orgs, and others who are (nominally) committed to free speech to ignore the harm/disruption trans students experience when misgendered.

Steve, the problem is not his view in the piece, but is his wild uncalled for attack on the article in the comments on the Bluesky post and on his page. His views in the article are fine and he tried to say the journalist quoted him out of context, which he clearly did not.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s bill makes it a *federal crime* to provide trans youth with gender-affirming medical care or transport to get that care. Skrmetti facilitated the downward spiral to this awful destination. This is an *extremely* fascist use of criminal law. www.congress.gov/bill/119th-c...

One reason the NYT has burned its credibility with trans people is that they still cite the discredited Cass report in reporting on trans healthcare. Never the German, Utah, or other systematic reviews supporting care. They also never provide the political context behind restrictions in care.
A screenshot of a news article header featuring circular portraits of three authors: Azeen Ghorayshi, Amy Harmon, and Reed Abelson. The dateline is Dec. 18, 2025. The opening paragraph reads: "The federal government on Thursday acted to put an end to gender-related care for minors across the nation, threatening to pull federal funding from any hospital that offered such treatment."A paragraph of text from a news article discussing medical interventions for minors. The text reads: "Questions over the evidence to support medical interventions for minors have been central to debate worldwide as demand for the treatments has increased. An influential report released in Britain last year found that the scientific evidence on the benefits and risks of the treatment was 'remarkably weak,' and concluded by recommending that puberty blockers be restricted to research trials only. Several European countries, and most recently New Zealand, have imposed restrictions."

The questions do not hide the ball at all. The Court is deciding this issue with Title IX liability—including in the sports cases this term—in mind. That’s why they granted cert despite the circuit courts’ unanimity. They’re poised to issue a ruling even broader than RLUIPA to bar Title IX damages.

ICYMI, trans people came up in the Supreme Court today, but not in a case where you’d expect it. In Landor, the Court will decide whether RLUIPA allows damages remedies against individual officers. Justices Gorsuch and Barrett asked hypos about another spending clause statute: Title IX.

Bernie could have been president if neoliberals like Obama didn’t meddle in the primaries + ruin his chance. Polls said Bernie had a better shot at beating Trump in 2016 than Hillary. When neoliberals beg not to vote for leftists candidates bc we will lose GOP to the moderates, don’t listen to them.

The people are striving to hold our government accountable. Agents often hide or remove their name plate, turn off body cams before taking abusive actions. The agents are trying to doxx protestors + have their fascist compatriots destroy a person through all potential avenues the tech age provides.

Neoliberals in power have always raised hell over protesters masking—BLM, antifa. They labeled them criminals. They want to identify protestors to surveil them. The people do not have that tech. Gov’t agents hiding their faces only frustrates potential litigation. It’s an obstruction of justice.

A rule of thumb: when they come for a specific practice despite adopting it themselves, it’s a sign of fascism. Unlawful for thee, not for me. Fascists love to point the finger at things they’re actually doing. Remember when cops unmasked activists from campus Gaza encampments in front of media?
