When you get to the Academy, look up a man named Boothby.

Apple Maps comes pre-installed on new iPhones (but it can be deleted). Google Maps is not pre-installed. Apple Maps is currently showing Lake Ontario. Google's product shows that other name even if you search for Lake Ontario.

Who gets to own this oil? And how is it possible that giving monopoly control of it to private sector partners will do anything to lower prices?

It's important to verify. But not all Wikipedia references are links. Some are bibliographical references to published books.

My mother told us that in grade school (mid 1920s) the pupils were reading aloud to the class, and my mom's turn ended with "pshaw." She was stopped in mid "psshh" to the hilarity of the whole class.

Very surprising. I'm wondering how it came about that this obituary was eventually published. The only other newspaper obit I am finding was published last August in the Muncie (IN) Star Press. (Muncie was his home town.)

There's no point in attempting mind-reading, but maybe "excursion" sounds like "incursion" but has this innocuous connotation like a leisurely field trip.

There is a military sense, but it doesn't seem apt, in Merriam-Webster Unabridged: : a going out or forth as from a place of confinement: such as a: a military expedition : raid, sortie —obsolete except in the phrase alarums and excursions

Matt seemed to be saying that Talarico should shift to the right to attract a larger portion of the electorate, and I was asking him how that would work without taking on positions that Rs already had staked out. I don't see how your comment addresses that.

Was that addressed to me? I was asking Matt what positions he'd suggest that Talarico should take that are different from progressive positions.

How could it ever help a D candidate to act like a R? If the voters want only R positions, they'll vote for an R. If you think there are specific D positions that can attract votes from right-wing voters (if other D positions are abandoned) spell those out. I don't see that in what you're proposing.

/2 my guess, without specific knowledge, is that you can't have the same source streaming to two different devices at the same time. Maybe if you had two equal independent sources, you can bluetooth to the earpod from one and connect to the implant/aid from the other. ?

===dan @ddaann.bsky.social · 10/12/2025
I've heard (in general terms) of streaming to a cochlear implant for one ear and a hearing aid for another, but only in the context of compatible systems (Phonak and Advanced Bionic). I've heard of arrangements where one aid gets a signal and sends the feed to the other ear. /1

Several years ago, before the AI hype, I got a marketing call that seemed "uncanny" although on paper it would have seemed like a conversation. I asked if the caller was a robot and the over-enunciated, totally unconvincing reply was "you are talking to a human being."

Notice the "negotiate" in quotes. The objective is mockery, not statehood.

I'd love to see Canada "negotiate" statehood on those terms. It's a bit more populous than California and has 10 provinces already (plus territories). 20 senators and 52 representatives seems fair.

I've never heard about this misbehavior before. Other tournaments involve golfers from around the world without incident, and TV coverage always mentions nationalities. Raucousness is one thing, but unsportsmanlike and offensive behavior is quite another. What's different here?

"Brokering" seems to suggest voluntary transactions, and I've seen innumerable complaints about training material taken without permission. How the data are used cannot have any effect on whether it is "brokering."

Eventually it won't be an essential skill to deceive the umpire (framing). Far better to fool the batter with good pitching. Also, I won't miss bellyaching about balls-and-strikes calls.
