Unexpected start to the day when we found this little #joey tangled by her foot in a fence. Popped her in a pouch made out of an old jumper. The #wildlifecarer took her to the vet and there was no major damage. Fingers crossed. 🫰 Happy she's in good hands. #Australianwildlife #kangaroos

While setting up my book stall for the Aust Mammal Society conference a friend asked if I'd mind selling these gorgeous Team Kowari socks as well. Happy to support a great cause. Only later discovered that the socks were designed by my youngest daughter!🤯 #AusWildlife #nonfiction #conservation

How about a very undignified wedgetailed eagle capture (literally)? Rescued from a failed chicken run raid. Male - the larger female watched on unimpressed. He's fine.

Day off today. Converted the former TV nook into more shelving for the (now) craft room. Toss up between fabric storage and book stock - books won. Plus stuffed toys for school visits.

Happy place! Was gifted a kayak/paddleboard by a friend. Just perfect for tootling around on the dam.

Thrilled to see this big fat #platypus (check out that tail) foraging in #Hobart Rivulet. Wildlife in cities is a wonderful thing - we need to make all cities more #wildlife friendly (as well as protecting large areas of intact #native bush). Yay for #monotremes! #naturewriting #australianwildlife

A lovely Adelaide launch for Grace Notes by Jennifer Liston. Bringing to life the famed Irish Pirate Queen Gráinne Mhaol, reconnecting oral and written histories with poetry, song, and resolute rigour. A master class in literary historical reconstruction.

So happy to see these epicormic shoots emerging from the trunks of some Mt Lofty cup gums. This tiny forest of gums form a tiny forest was badly impacted by the long dry spell last summer. These buds are a drought (and fire) adaptation. A relief to see them appear. #naturewriting #inspiration

Another dry day for the driest year on record in the driest state on the driest inhabited continent. Trees dying, tanks empty, dams dried to dust (not ours tho). Waiting for summer to break, the fire season to end and to breathe a sigh of relief. Chance of a spot of rain today apparently🤞.
Morning view and blue sky over Southern Australian hills and bush with dry grass in foreground.

Watching trees die in the forest due to summer drought. We haven't had any significant rain (more than 10mm) since November and only 6 days of any rain at all in the last three months. Less than half our summer average. And nothing in sight yet. Not good.
