To be fair, they also can’t comprehend how to format dates.

Are you going to accessorise with the helmet? It’s an important part of the iconic look.

Already doing this with Claude subscriptions. One benefit is that it forces more thoughtful usage.

Divs for everything is a plague. To be honest, I fear this is worse than tables for layout. This is really showing my age.

If you’re negatively compared to Teams, it must be really, really bad. Teams is not good.

still seems high For reference I say this on post that mentions polling for Trump. Mostly because any number higher than 0 seems too high.

Americans tend to overreact to everything. They’re always terrified, furious or amazed. They should all calm down a little.

We’re hiring, and yes it’s hard. We’re looking for good people and are agnostic on whether they use ai to code (we believe it’s teachable). This makes tech tests quite difficult as they might be completed with or without ai. It’s hard.

I really hate the phrase “the wrong side of history”. Guess what, history doesn’t take moral stances. It records what happens. If someone is doing the wrong thing, just say that.

We’ve been using a worklog pattern which saves the prompts to a file that ends up in source control. I’ve had to moderate my behaviour so that it’s not immortalised in source control forever.

I’m a heavy user of ai and let me tell you, when the robot revolution comes I’m going to be first against the wall. Specifically I’ve found that swearing at AI means it takes you more seriously.

The real lesson is for the American voters: don’t elect an idiot. Unfortunately I’m not sure it’s really sinking in as much as it should be.

No, both suffer from the same problem. A small innocuous change a long way away can break _everything_. While this is possible in other languages (eg macros in C), it’s a relatively small risk and/or it’s localised. CSS is so hard to get right and so easy to break.

Right. Front end js is similarly bad, where anyone can overwrite anyone else’s stuff. Both have poor control of scope.

The reason AI does this well is that it has infinite patience and infinite time to trace things through.

dcamdupe.bsky.social @dcamdupe.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
I’ve always hated CSS, as has every backend developer. In the past it tended to fail to fix real problems (like centering a div). But the real problem is that it doesn’t have good scoping controls, so it’s hard to trace what is applied to elements.

The future of css is for it to be written by AI. It’s such a mess that clearly no human can comprehend it.

Hmm. So I’m in the camp that says AI is useful which makes me at outlier on bsky. This is a silly premise. How can you tell whether C3PO actually has feelings / loves art / etc rather than just mimicking human behaviour?
