‼️ ALERTA ‼️ A check point appears to setting up on Rhode Island Ave between South Dakota and Eastern Ave around 6:10 pm. At least one ICE agent has been spotted. Five MPD and two unmarked cars confirmed on site with many more arriving.

Anon plz: ANC 8A Commissioners w/ MPD are holding a march to "take back" Minnesota Ave from their own constituents. They do not like these residents because they are housing insecure, hang outside, & receive social services from multiple orgs. They purchased bullhorns to “clear out" their neighbors.

Taking Back Minnesota Avenue

The biggest concern I've heard from many of you is the loitering, open containers, and drug dealing on Minnesota Avenue. Commissioner Davis and I have spent countless hours talking with community stakeholders to address these issues. I firmly believe we must stop the drug dealing before we can effectively address other issues in the park.

We now need your help.

Join us as we march together to take back Minnesota Avenue, showing a united front just before and on the first day of school.

When: Join us on Thursday, August 21, Friday, August 22, and Monday, August 25 (the first day of school).

Time: We'll meet at 3 p.m. each day.

Where: We will meet at the intersection of Marion Barry Ave (Good Hope Road) and Minnesota Ave.

The March: We will march in the middle of the street down to the 2200 block of Minnesota Ave in front of Boone Elementary, and we will occupy that block on both sides of the street. Commissioner Davis and I will bring bullhorns, but please bring signs.

How You Can Help: We need you, your friends, and your families to join us. If you can't march, please join us along the route to show your support. If you can't attend, please help make signs to share with others who can. We'll have MPD on-site, but our strength is in our numbers. By showing up for three days in a row, especially during the time students are getting out of school, we can send a clear message that we want this block back

Why we marched

“For me, getting involved in protests and marches has been a long time coming. I have felt like a witness rather than an active member of the world for most of my life, watching uprising after uprising and feeling in awe of the bravery, power, and love in practice by ordinary people. I don’t think it was something I could be a part of but after watching injustice after injustice I figured who cares. I’ll try to be part of it anyways.

And once I started meeting people who do protest work, I started feeling like I had a place and could be an active force for change or betterment, rather than an observer to suffering.

Now, it’s a way for me to engage in the world with purpose, compassion, and energy for my community.”
