Currently heavy rains are occurring in the Kau district and some flooding is taking place in the Waiohinu area near Kamaoa Road and Kaalaiki Road in Naalehu. Highway 11 will be closed from Pinao Street to Kaalualu Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible.

Highway 11 (Māmalahoa Highway) is currently open. There was a slight scare early this morning around 5:45 AM when a downed tree blocked a lane near the Shirakawa Hotel in Waiōhinu, but HDOT crews had it cleared and all lanes reopened by 7:30 AM. Mahalo to our road crews! #Hawaii

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park remains closed today due to the impacts of Hurricane Nolo. Park will remain closed thru-out the arrival and duration of the storm. Reopening will occur only after the storm passes and park personnel can safely evaluate the grounds for damage and hazards. #Hawaii
