Betrayed by a woman. The patriarchal system co-opts women, often in the name of religion, teaches them to submit to men, then turns them against non-conforming women, even against young girls. To be clear, not all men are guilty—I know many good men—but the system evolved by and for men.

When I was growing up in the 50s-60s, my grandfather’s go-to cough syrup was Jack Daniel’s and rock candy. He once treated me at home for two weeks before I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I did develop a passion for Jack & Ginger.

This is Fraya. She came in to escape the Tennessee summer. She’s been inside almost two hours, so my partner decided it was time to go out. Fraya won’t budge. She is studiously avoiding eye contact and has gone deaf. NB: Fraya is not our dog.
