Not sure why, but for years I assumed Jolene was an ironic song, with the subtext being the protagonist is actually not fussed about losing her man – i.e. pretending to be as a joke at Jolene's expense. Apparently this is a *very* wrong reading, but I'm still quite attached to it 🤷

HG Wells is alleged to have remarked "Every time I see an adult on a bicycle, I no longer despair for the future of the human race”. You could see this shocking chart as an index of civilisation. A country which gets this issue so badly wrong is likely to fail in many other ways.
