Before PIA or any of the other ticket clippers are allowed to whinge about a 'planner shortage', can we try not needing: - 60 pages of documentation - a month long notification period - a public panel meeting To permit a restaurant to convert to a bar, with the same operating hours!

Appalling stories from the Northern Beaches Hospital. It shouldn't be surprising that they're struggling with staffing when the only housing nearby are $4m mansions and public transport options are pathetic. If we want to fix our hospitals, we need to build homes for staff to live.

There's a bloke who's now on his 5th day in a row posting multi paragraph screeds in the Balmain facebook page about how this building being painted green is an affront to the priceless heritage of the area.

I think there's a much better explanation for that trend! ACT-style rent control is good- it smooths out short term trends and doesn't really impact construction. But by definition, it can't be responsible for long term changes.

I just don't think the max increases have been a binding constraint at any point in the last few years. If it was having an effect, we'd see most renewals at the maximum permissible- but they just haven't moved at all. If they're not moving, almost by definition the max isn't binding.

How it feels to ride your bike home listening to the cricket on the radio after 2 work-provided beers on a sunny spring evening

It shouldn't be remarkable that a politician is stating simple facts like this, but it's truly remarkable how quickly the rhetoric has shifted here. The era of planners carrying water for exclusionary, wealthy suburbs is coming to an end.
