It's been 9 years since the Wales flag emoji was launched. Due to its complex design, a supercomputer at the Shirley Bassey Sinclair Spectrum Institute in Splott was used to miniaturise the flag. Here's what it looks like under an electron microscope.

That paper became certifiably unhinged in Thatcher’s days. I despair when I see people buying it.

I wonder how it’ll compare with revelatory Romanesque exhibition of 1984. I still treasure the epic catalogue

The reference to Jonah preaching to the erring people of Nineveh is obvious but a bit ominous.

One of a few 18th century brick churches in the lower Derwent valley, see also Seaton Ross and East Cottingwith. Little jewels all.

The freeze on university appointments she imposed killed so many potential careers. I think me and Graham Loud were the only medievalists of our generation to develop careers

The secret to acquiring dates is to spend 8 years as a secondary school history teacher. The fear of humiliation in the eyes of the class when you hem and haw and fluff a date and have to look it up, is just too much to risk.

The médiéval salmon tides up the Humber estuary and River Ouse attracted crowds of dolphins/porpoises in search of easy meals. This we know because the 15th century accounts of the bishop of Durham registered beached porpoises in the tide as his prerogative

Fellows are organised into sections on the basis of disciplines so I don’t quite follow. My reservations lie in the area of the over concentration of Fellows in the Golden Triangle.

That describes my great granddad who landed in Cardiff from a tramp steamer in 1864 set up in Grangetown as an innkeeper and provisioner and made a mint selling soft drinks. His brother came too. He was a silversmith and jeweller. The name is still on city shops

A bit of a rarity, the brick south porch of St Edmunds Routh (Yorks ER). Pevsner & Neave say medieval. Early brick work in Hull and region is known so it is possible. But the similar brick porch at Millington proved datable to 1637 from parish warden’s accounts

Not a question you’d ask if the CofE hadn’t decided to define clerical status on ‘leadership’. Not a problem in a church that has a more sacramental focus

I was at breakfast with a party of trainee clergy in St George’s college in Jerusalem. The Palestinian staff were very anxious and solicitous for our expected emotional displays of grief, which did not manifest. Sadly.

Here's an oddity which is difficult to account for, but maybe the font enthusiasts of Bsky can. The rather plain 13th-14th century font of Bubwith church (ER Yorks) has carved on 3 of its octagonal faces FONS DE BUBVID in a medieval script (maybe 15th century)

An archival disaster to be compared with the destruction of the Irish Public Record Office in the Four Courts of Dublin in 1922. Thankfully Torre and other antiquarian colleagues partly mitigated the disaster preserving much medieval material

Today I begin my not infrequent searches though Bodl Libr ms Top Yorks b 14, James Torre's notes on the fragmentary remains of the archive of monastic charters the Council of the North laudably stored in St Mary's Tower, which was then blown up by a mine on 16 June 1644
folio 215v compiled in Torre's economical 4 column format

And playing the victim in other ways. He wouldn't join the line up and give the traditional acceptance speech as the Essex Police had warned him he said of some sort of unspecified danger (they hadn't). The danger was in his mind the pictures of him with more conventional (establishment) loonies.

You may need more torturing. Awesomedude was one of the first gay story sites of any quality, unlike Nifty ffs. It's somehow kept going and has several quite accomplished writers these day, including several Welsh writers who take on Welsh subjects, which is how I got into it.
