Lol. Kiev is owned by a mother+daughter. I heard some Ukrainians don't shop there anymore, which I find disappointing since they have a stand with Ukraine sign in the window. They're from a contested town, IDK if theyre ethnic Russian...ethnicity is made up. Nataliya owners are from Western Ukraine.

I was today years old when I learned Camera Bartolotta is married to Bill DeWeese. A bit disappointing considering he once wrote me a letter praising me for being a "palpable, progressive presence in Pennsylvania politics" after my union did GOTV for him.

I think this is all true. Some of the protesters are inevitably going to be messy, but fundamentally the socialist left should be on the side of people trying to stop the illegal land sales, whether or not someone is claiming a holy ground loophole to commit war crimes from New York.

Yeah, I am a big fan of on the job training, which obviously no company ever wants to do unless it's to solve an acute worker shortage. The building trades have programs but most of the economy doesn't operate from hiring halls protected by prevailing wage laws.

Basically education systems are pretty good at socially reproducing the mode of production they exist under, maybe as the most important aspect of social reproduction generally, but having less of it definitely doesn't improve that situation. Affordability is a legitimate issue, I am sure all agree.

Bernie's 16 campaign with universal free community college seems like a good campaign issue imho. I would take advantage of it as a 46 year old without a degree! This doesn't mean I accept a framework of "equality mostly just happens through educating people" by any means. But it's a universal good

I fully agree on vouchers or any other privatization scheme. But I find it a little annoying when you have someone who is a Yale employee saying less people should go to college. Even if she's right, it seems something people at elite universities like to say and are unlikely for their own kids

I think a lot of people misunderstood the film. They mention that the characters say lines they wouldn't have; Roger Ebert, who I love, said that the characters seem to be in a different movie than war film they are in. I think that's the idea Malick had, the juxtaposing. TBF I haven't read Jones

But the book sounds very interesting. I saw an amazing chart before of the average occupations of Labour Party MPs in Britain. 50 years ago, it was still basically miner, teacher, manual laborer. Now it's almost entirely lawyer, consultant, only been a politician.

The last two PAC chairs of our under 3000 member local are now a Pennsylvania state senator and state house representative respectively. Which is very good, though lacking anything like a labor party or even its surrogate, it is very informal and confusing about what it "means" as strategy.
