Aw, thank you! I had a lot of fun making it and then wearing it! I am planning to design another chatelaine with a different theme, and I already know I want to add one of those tiny Damascus knives to it.

I do think that weddings could be improved even more with more random folks wandering about, sharing their preferred tipple in unusual ways, offering toasts and spreading joy.

It was messier than this, and I organized it for the pic because of the habit of trying to make everything look perfect to post. But in the age of AI, I am now thinking it is better to show it like it is and not clean stuff up. I am trying to convince myself to embrace imperfection, LOL.

Thanks to you and others for the inspiration! I love where discussions and learning can lead creativity.

I did get a terrible picture in my messy room when I tested it, and here it is. Folks can know this isn’t AI, and I will embrace the human messiness of my life and room. I had a lot of fun making this and learned a lot!
Me wearing the whisky chatelaine with my Prickly Thistle kilt, wool turquoise tights, brown boots, and a purple sweater. The chatelaine is pinned at my left hip, and the trout flask hangs just above my left knee. I took the picture in a mirror, and the spots on the mirror are visible, along with the clutter in my bedroom behind me.

I wore it to a wedding, and it was a lot of fun to be able to share whisky as I walked around. I was having so much fun, I didn’t get any pictures of me on my way phone.

The finished chatelaine.
My whisky chatelaine on a black blanket pin with a sawn and hammered copper plate. There are whisky accoutrements attached by copper necklace sections I repurposed. There is a leather whisky glass holder, a trout flask, a mini 1 oz flask, a flask funnel, a cobalt blue glass bottle with eye dropper for water and a length of little copper jingle bells, just because. A closer view of the whisky chatelaine. A closer view of the whisky chatelaine showing the back of the copper plate attached to the pin. I wanted to be able to detach the pin and wear it on a belt, but the tab isn’t quite long enough to be secure (it was a definite learning experience making this, and I will do it differently next time).

I decided to use copper, as I had all the materials needed (and it would give me good practice sawing metal sheets). I was trying for something I could either pin or wear on a belt, and I used a blanket pin as the base for pinning.

After all, I had a leather whisky glass holder with a belt attachment that I got at an honesty box in Scotland last summer. It would pair perfectly with the trout flask.
A tooled leather cylinder with a Celtic knot design on the lid that closes with a snap closure. The cylinder holds stainless steel shot glasses which are next to the leather holder. Everything is being looked at by a big orange ginger cat, who photobombed my pic.

After some discussions of chatelaines by @peculiarityshop.bsky.social, it hit me—why not make a whisky chatelaine?

(And yes, I bought it for scotch, so it is whisky rather than whiskey)

I bought the trout whisky flask in June; a fish flask seemed a necessary accessory for a fish biologist. I have struggled to figure out what to do with it. It doesn’t fit in my pockets, and it isn’t practical in my purse. Plus it is cool! I want to show it off.

Making and creating has been a necessary distraction for me when everything seems so grim. So why not share what I have been working on, even if it is messy?
A wood bench top with a 6-inch long flask shaped like a trout, assorted jewelry tools, three sections of heart-shaped copper links, a black blanket pin, copper findings and 3-inch copper sheet, a 1-oz flask, and a tooled leather cylinder which holds 4 stainless steel shot glasses.

I thought if something else if you ever see one (don’t want to be a pain asking though, so if it is too much trouble, feel free to ignore). I would love to purchase a horned lizard/horny toad charm, if you ever find one.

Nice! I would be interested in cryptids and other weird creatures (jackalopes,Sasquatch, yeti, etc.), realistic animals and animal skulls, and puffins. Lots more, but I hesitate to list it all; besides which, you always find such cool stuff that I never previously realized I want.

Trouble is I am going to need several more charm bracelets if I got all the charms that caught my eye tonight (and I bet there are even more than this?). Maybe I need to start a charm necklace.

This with the offset onyx cuff would look so good together for sleek futuristic look! (Not dibs, as I tend to be much more chaotic than sleek, but I can certainly picture them together for a big punch of a look)

I honestly am wearing the kilt more now because of the snake and how good it looks. I can’t wait to wear it with more (just waiting for the weather to cool for the trench coats and tweed jackets). It is a spectacular piece; thank you for sourcing it!

Same. Philosophy shouldn’t have to justify itself instrumentally by supplying skills to other “practical” fields. The value of philosophy lies in how it expands your horizons, how it forces you to think differently and deeply about the world.

This weekend I wore my 6 inch+ marcasite serpent brooch from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social as a kilt pin on my Prickly Thistle kilt. It went perfectly with the outfit and the vibe I was aiming for. Now to figure out what else I can wear this massive noodle friend with.
Photo of a non-traditional black kilt woven with a subtle grey plaid with two buckles worn by white woman. She is wearing a magnificent sterling silver marcasite serpent brooch as a kilt pin under the buckles and black boots with brightly colored socks. The brooch is over 6 inches long. On her left hand is two rings and she is wearing two charm bracelets on her left wrist. A close up of the magnificent marcasite serpent brooch with its ruby eyes on the black kilt with subtle grey pattern. The brooch is being angled towards the camera by a white woman’s hand with magenta nail polish and a sterling rattlesnake ring on the thumb. There are two charm bracelets on the wrist.

It really is! When I researched it, some claimed it is from the 1920’s or thereabouts. Not sure it is, but I love to think of it being worn and used by a carefree flapper flaunting convention.

Now why didn’t I think of that? Limiting it to a cigarette holder is thinking too small. 😂

I don’t smoke, but I got this cool little collapsible cigarette holder that nests inside an acorn pendant as part of a scrap lot. When I bought it, I thought maybe it was a pendant pillbox or something. I was so surprised when I unscrewed the cap!
A silver acorn pendant with a cap that unscrews laid on its side on top of the desk. It is about 2 inches long. My hand holding the silver acorn pendant between my thumb and forefinger. I am wearing a rattlesnake ring on my thumb. The same silver acorn pendant held in my hand with the cap removed and on the desk. Inside the acorn are metal tubes and a plastic tube which forms a mouthpiece. The silver acorn pendant on its side on the desk with the cap unscrewed beside it. The tubes are removed and assembled as a collapsible cigarette holder with a plastic mouthpiece. The cigarette holder is about 3 inches long. The acorn isn’t completely smooth and is rumpled from rough treatment in the past.

Btw this is a great way to accommodate yourself. Whether you're disabled or not. I live in a 2 floor home so it can be hard for me to get to my main kitchen at times. So it's nice to be able to hydrate and eat even when I don't feel great. Or I'm locked in working.

Check out this amazing sterling silver rattlesnake ring I got from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social! I absolutely love the accurate detail and its tiny garnet eyes which glow red when the light hits right.

For charms, I am looking for animal skulls, puffins, bees, dragonflies, pirate things, like Jolly Roger or similar. Either regular or wide Pandora style. I have nearly filled my regular charm bracelets and recently got a Pandora bracelet to start adding to.

Resistance was futile because the snake has beguiled me. I am really and truly in jewelry jail for a very long time now. But I will have the company of this splendid snake.
