Also, killing Amazon won't solve the problem. The reason Amazon is like this is because being like this makes money, and sending Amazon into the ground just means somebody who used to be a C-level at Amazon is gonna go to the shareholders and offer to be Amazon 2. That's why we need to regulate shit

If you want people to do things for you, you need to attend to their needs as well. Making moral demands is still making demands, and people generally do not like when someone demands that they change their lifestyle because you think it's icky.

It would be wonderful if everyone could Just Stop Using Amazon, but if we had the means to do that, we'd have the means to have everyone Just Do A Revolution. We don't.

Secondly, voting with your wallet simply doesn't work in an environment where a company has already seized control of both regulations and the market. Like it or not, people want and need things, and all of their options for getting things are terrible. No ethical consumption under capitalism, etc.

First of all, why are you blaming voters for a lack of action from politicians? Sure, their vote is supposed to count...but when the candidates on offer are Joe Midman vs. Donald Fascist and neither one is willing to regulate this shit, what are they supposed to do, not vote?

Companies that deliver either got Walmarted by Amazon (driven out of business by Amazon's negative margins, as part of conquering the market) or are delivering through equally terrible gig-work apps (doordash, uber eats, et al).

is it more depressing if this post is taken srsly bc I mentioned working at an amazon warehouse, or if it's not taken srsly bc acknowledging that the opinions of the warehouse worker matters would get in the way of feeling good about standing up for the warehouse worker

Me, I worked at an Amazon warehouse for a couple years. Still get a little worked up about how I spent a year scared that I'd see someone die at the workplace. But telling people they can't use Amazon isn't how we fix that. Ignoring people's needs won't fix it. Regulations will.

they had to use every shitty service you could imagine to get shit they needed. every gig-work delivery app. amazon orders too, usually for medical supplies iirc. While I lived with them I did grocery runs when I could, but I had to move out (long story) and now they're back to not having anybody.

spoken like someone who's never met a disabled person my previous roommates were a couple who were basically stuck in their apartment 24/7 because one of them had severe mobility issues and the other one was his only caretaker

like, I self-ID as a socialist extremist, and I'm out here saying that quibbling over the difference between a socialist and a social democrat is a waste of time we need to recognize that being a candidate people will vote for and being a candidate who Gets Shit Done are the same thing

the big takeaway from Mamdani's victory is that he didn't waste time trying to be the correct kind of socialist, he told people he was gonna fix the roads and make their groceries cheaper and then they voted for him, because he told them he'd help

The trick here is covering all the different kinds of parachutes--you got stock options, ridiculous wages, loans taken out with company stock as collateral--that last one is supposed to be illegal, btw, but enforcement is nonexistent. Killing the stock market would be a good start though.

payment processors when itch dot io has gay people on it: "NOOOOO THAT'S PROBLEMATIC" payment processors when the game series that already had a necrophiliac in it has 'fetish content': "hell yeah fuck yeah"

imagine being so petty that you have to SPECIFY "no, this isn't trans malfoy, this is ~genderbent~ malfoy" it's only trans if it comes from the trans region of the internet, I guess? otherwise it's sparkling r63

"What about the rights of the victim?" says the dead guy's sister after showing the court fake footage I don't get why people keep thinking that putting people in jail faster and more often means the courts are working better. It's like watching someone throw life vests overboard bc "they're heavy"

the moment I stopped taking antishippers seriously was when Coffin of Andy and Leyley dropped and they all collectively shit themselves over the fact that the cannibal murder twins did ~incest~

The part that drives me nuts is when people think the way to deal with this is to say things like "we are taking the trans sports issue Very Seriously" All of these problems are made up!! by pretending they DO exist you're letting your opponent create a battlefield that favors them!!
