Here's a chronological summary of the key updates:
• The option to buy your Motability car at the end of the lease ended (2024)
• "Drive Smart" monitoring introduced for drivers under 30 (August 2025), and extended to all new customers (April 2026)
• Insurance excess increased to £250, with windscreen excess rising to £100 (October 2025)
• Premium brands including Alfa Romeo, BMW, Audi, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz all removed from the Scheme (November 2025)
• Lease extensions now heavily restricted and only granted in exceptional circumstances (December 2025)
• Removal of the £100 lightweight wheelchair option (March 2026)
For new orders from July 2026:
• New taxes on Advance Payments and insurance that will likely increase costs further
• Annual mileage limits reduced from 20,000 to 10,000 miles - just 27 miles per day
• Excess mileage charges increased significantly (5p to 25p per mile)
• Tyre replacement policies tightened
• New admin charges introduced for taking vehicles abroad

It’s all about choices. Charge circa 1M disabled people an extra grand a year, or up taxes in the super wealthy. 🤷🏻‍♀️

During last year's Budget, the government removed its tax break on insurance and it must now cover 12% on each insurance premium. It must also now pay VAT on some vehicles meaning the scheme will need to pay out an additional £300m from 1 July.
Nigel Fletcher, CEO of the Motability Foundation, said that would be the equivalent of a price rise of £1,100 for every driver on the scheme.

Well, the positivity lasted about 2 hrs. Further tests with hand specialist & need a referral back to the consultant, to orthopedics for my wrist & elbow, & to spinal for my neck & shoulders. Hand is getting worse....

Just spoken with my case handler & she told me that the other driver's solicitors have admitted full liability. That's one positive, thankfully. At RVI re my hand & waiting for referrals for back & MH. Feels like I've been placed in lockdown again, but just me! Not good! Some positive news, tho 😀

Just watched A Man For All Seasons again. It's a fantastic film. Won 6 Oscars, including Best Film. The immediate similarities between Robert Shaw's Henry VIII & #Trump, with Cromwell, looking for any way to trip Thomas More up & using lies to end him seem like a very portentous warning today.
