This morning the fire department came to my street to put out an actual dumpster fire. They used the fire hydrant on our property, which was the first time it’s been used in the decade we’ve lived here. I was so proud of our little guy.

Going to have to complain to Fly With Me Animal Rescue in Nova Scotia because we asked for a dog and they gave us this potato instead.

My tabletop roleplaying group did a marathon game day over the holidays which we doubled up as a sourdough bread workshop. We were constantly taking short breaks so I could teach the next steps. Now my inbox is filled with photos of their creations.

Of all the many loaves of bread I've baked this year, this is the one I declare most likely to appear in a Richard Scarry book.

Last night I dreamed I was going for a walk with our wonderful dog Jake, who left this world 6 years ago. It was magical. Making it even better, he was wearing a cute little sailor's hat.

One of the unexpected joys of fatherhood for me has been cozying up on the couch with a blanket and watching as one of my kids plays video games, so today is 👌

Lovely! We’re going to do similar with the 3,000 pound concrete bird bath in the back yard one of these days with a sledge hammer. Btw, your profile pic instantly reminded me of this!

One thing I love about working with sourdough is when I finish making anything (like tonight’s pizza dough) I have to think about what I’m going to make next. Am I going to bake bread tomorrow? Better feed my starter to make sure I have enough tomorrow, plus a bit more so I can plan for the next day

I was in the driveway finishing installation of a replacement tail light assembly on our van when I heard the kitchen timer telling me my load of sourdough bread was ready to come out of the oven. “I’d marry me,” I said softly to myself.

Our wonderful dog Jake (gone since 2019, gosh) absolutely hated having a camera pointed at him. When we whipped out a phone, he’d often give us this profile with one lil canine tooth as a little fuck off.

And with that, I hang up my Guardian carrier bag for the last time. 8 years as a paperboy—the first five with my son. The rest solo, now that he’s at university. A hell of a great way to start my day for most of a decade.

I was devastated when I couldn’t find Benji in the loft early this morning. I just have missed him at head count last night. He is not a strong flyer, so I worried about all the cats, crows, hawks who would have loved to have nabbed him. Finally spotted him a few hours later. Home again. Good boy.
