I mean, broken clocks and all, but this seems like he actually took a principled stance

Well , opinion on the executive supervisor didn’t really shift until 2024, so After Jon Ola Sand’s tenure

All in all, ORF had an unsurprising number of technical issues. The hosting in 2015 was light years ahead of this year’s contest.

And now to go through Wikipedia to see who the various spokespeople are

The traditional New Song(s) From the Previous Year’s Winner was pretty solid. Not surprising, considering the Conchita of it all.

The percussion ensemble interval act was super fun. I’m always a big fan of having instrumental acts for the intervals. It helps to separate them from the actual competitors

🇮🇹Italy: Everybody’s grandma’s favourite Eurovision entry. The Italians have been doing this style of song contest longer than literally anyone else. It’s no surprise that they know what they’re doing.

🇦🇱Albania: I’m surprised to see gold on the LCDs, rather than red to go with their black outfits.

🇷🇺Russia: fuck Polina Gagarina

🇦🇿Azerbaijan: another ballad. Just another example of Azerbaijan’s decline since they weren’t able to (allegedly) cheat as easily

🇬🇪Georgia: pretty solid voice. Another set of wings in the background screen. And, of course, the infamous overactive smoke machine at the start

🇭🇺Hungary: a five-part acoustic guitar-driven ballad with some really nice harmonies. Very much on the “peace” side of the love love peace peace equation

🇪🇸Spain: it was fine, definitely had the Nordic song camp feel

🇷🇴Romania: one of many songs in the tradition of “economic migration sucks for all involved,” this time from the perspective of a child left behind by a parent.

🇱🇻Latvia: another downtempo song, but done quite well. It’s Latvia’s best finish since 2005 for a reason

D @davmo.northsky.social · 25/09/2026
🇵🇱Poland: the accessibility issues Monika Kuszyńska faced throughout her participation were a real indictment of ORF’s hosting That background was 100% an Arizona iced tea can. The song itself is fine.

🇩🇪Germany: was this song good? No. Did it deserve (the dreaded) nul points? Also no. All in all, it’s a competent Amy-Winehouse-esque track

🇲🇪Montenegro: their best result to date as an independent country. A pretty solid Balkan ballad, extra fun that it was relatively uptempo for the genre. Not shocking that Željko Joksimović wrote a banger

🇬🇷Greece: nothing special, really

🇦🇹Austria: this song didn’t earn a flaming piano. It’s a boring midtempo rock ballad. I understand how it scored nul points

🇧🇪Belgium: another baby! That said, it’s one of Belgium’s best results in decades for a reason

🇦🇺Australia: the last new country to debut. Hopefully we can do at least this well next year. Guy Sebastian was a fantastic choice for a first representative

🇨🇾Cyprus: they actually sent a Cypriot and not an Australian with Cypriot ancestry? Also, real mid-90’s “unplugged” vibes

All in all, though, Heroes is a standard Swedish Pop Machine song, just elevated by unprecedented staging
100
D @davmo.northsky.social · 25/09/2026
🇸🇪Sweden: Måns Zelmerlöw changed the contest with this staging. It’s a shame that he’s apparently not a great person, despite his undeniable charisma

🇳🇴Norway: I know why this edition was so ballad-heavy (ie people taking the wrong lesson from Rise Like a Phoenix), but they really start to blend together.

🇷🇸Serbia: Bojana Stamenov is a much more soulful singer than Serbia usually sends. A self acceptance anthem is always a welcome variation on a love love peace peace song

🇱🇹Lithuania: what in the Mumford & Sons stomp clap hey is this? Monika Linkytė’s solo effort in 2022 was so much better

🇦🇲Armenia: having a group from all over the world representing the Armenian diaspora was pretty cool, especially the bit at the end where they stood on a world map in the places they came from

🇬🇧UK: I’ve always had a soft spot for electro swing. The LED piping on the outfits was a cool touch. I think this song gets more hate than it deserves.

🇪🇪Estonia: the backing track to this duet had an interesting 60’s feel

Ok, the “parcel with something related to the activity” bit of the postcards was a nice touch

🇫🇷France: A downtempo chanson about World War I. That was some tonal whiplash from the last song

🇸🇮Slovenia: I lowkey enjoyed this one. Fun upbeat pop.

🇨🇭Switzerland: I was into it… until it hit the chorus. The dark trip-hop-ish beats in the verses were way too much at odds with the triumphant pop of the choruses

🇮🇸Iceland: kinda boring pop ballad. Another in the long tradition of barefoot Nordic women in Eurovision

🇩🇰Denmark: really standard late-00’s indie pop. The most interesting thing about this band was their name: Anti Social Media

ZSNES was magic, especially when the family computer’s 100MHz Pentium and 16 MB of memory weren’t quite zippy enough to reliably run the contemporary build of SNES9x
