Idaho Reports is on hiatus for the summer. The team is working on other IdahoPTV projects, including productions for Outdoor Idaho, Idaho Experience, and America250. Stay tuned for more info! In related news, I met this very nice cat on a shoot this morning. I also saw a hummingbird.

Secretary of State Phil McGrane: When elected leaders and their families are targeted simply because of their public service, it tears at the very fabric of our democracy. Full statement below and in alt text.
The recent wave of political violence, including the tragic assassination of a Minnesota legislator and the threats made against President Trump, is heartbreaking and unacceptable. America has stood strong for nearly 250 years not because we always agree, but because we've upheld the principle that we don't have to. Our Constitution was built on the idea that free people can disagree, debate, and even challenge one another fiercely, without resorting to violence. When elected leaders and their families are targeted simply because of their public service, it tears at the very fabric of our democracy. This is not who we are. We are better than this.

Let us honor the legacy of those who came before us by recommitting to civility, respect, and the peaceful exchange of ideas. Our democracy depends on it.

Phil McGrane, Secretary of State

Statement from the Idaho Democratic Caucus: "We are resolute in our commitment to building a more just and civil society where everyone is respected. Our dedication to this goal remains unwavering, and we will not be silenced in its pursuit." Full statement below and in alt text.
"Democratic Caucus Issues Statement on Attack of Minnesota Lawmakers

BOISE (June 14, 2025) – The Idaho Democratic Caucus strongly condemns the acts of political violence that occurred today in Minnesota targeting Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, as well as Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. We join the rest of the nation in expressing our deepest sympathy for the victims and their families.

Our society relies on a foundation of mutual respect, even amidst differing viewpoints. There is absolutely no justification for such violent acts. Every individual should feel secure in expressing their values without the fear of retaliation, intimidation, or the threat of violence. Acts of violence like this are a threat to everyone and a threat to a civil and just society.

We are resolute in our commitment to building a more just and civil society where everyone is respected. Our dedication to this goal remains unwavering, and we will not be silenced in its pursuit."

Statement from Idaho legislative leadership on Minnesota assassination: "Together, we stand firm against all forms of violence, particularly acts that undermine our democratic process and those elected by their communities to represent them." Full press release below, and in alt text.
"In unified solidarity and strength, today, the Idaho House and Senate Leadership
unequivocally condemn the tragic and senseless execution of one Minnesota lawmaker, her
husband while injuring another lawmaker and his wife. Together, we stand firm against all forms
of violence, particularly acts that undermine our democratic process and those elected by their
communities to represent them. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, colleagues, and
communities affected by this devastating loss. Public servants are elected to bring forward the
ideas and interests of their district, to the Legislature, where our founding fathers intended a
robust debate of these ideas. The legislative process is intended to be difficult, but it is
intentional. It is through this very process that we collectively make the best decisions to serve
the people of the great state of Idaho."

One of our trees is coming out today. It's an old silver maple that isn't doing too well, and it's lost a few limbs in storms over the last couple months. It wasn't safe, and it's time for it to go, but I'm still a bit sad. I'll miss seeing it out my window.

I was going through a box of my stuff from high school and found a ball signed by Torii Hunter. I have absolutely no idea when or where I acquired this. I never saw the Twins play. Did he spend any time with the Hawks....? I'm so confused! How do I not remember this?

"a skeptical Davlin" is the best thing anyone has ever written about me. arbiteronline.com/2025/03/06/g...
Screen grab of article. Text: "Little claimed that while some issues are “around the fringe, around the edges that are probably going to be looked at,” the public safety aspect of firefighting is going to be fine.

“We’ve already talked to workers, though, who were directly involved with fire supply chain issues and clearing out the forests, who said that they were already laid off,” said a skeptical Davlin.

“We’ll be fine,” replied Little."

Really good information from The Bulwark if you are watching the markets tomorrow. Source: open.substack.com/pub/thebulwa...
From The Bulwark: "First, some ground rules. The securities markets have a system of circuit breakers to halt massive declines. There are three circuit breakers that are measured by calculating a percentage decline in the S&P 500 from the close of the previous day: Level 1 (7 percent), Level 2 (13 percent), and Level 3 (20 percent). If Levels 1 or 2 are tripped before 3:25 p.m., all trading is halted for 15 minutes. If Level 3 is tripped at any point in the day, trading is halted for the remainder of the day."Here are the S&P’s circuit breaker numbers for Monday:
Level 1: $5,617
Level 2: $5,255
Level 3: $4,832

Perhaps the most important thing that happened yesterday that didn't make it into the show was @radiodawson.bsky.social dropping his truck keys into the IdahoPTV elevator shaft through the small gap that forms when elevator door opens. It took a group effort to fish them out.

I'm not clear if this is normal for new administrations. But some sites, like the Dept. of State, archive everything from previous administrations. (Everything! Here's the Jan. 2001 site with Sec. Albright's farewell address.)

Who left Ichiro off their ballot and deprived him of a unanimous vote? I just want to talk to them. Just a little chat. That's all.

So yeah, that makes more sense. I knew Carter came from humble beginnings, but. Anyhoo, please enjoy this photo from President Carter's Salmon River rafting trip, from the AP. I personally think this is far too much denim for a river adventure, but I would never tell the president such a thing.

I sent the link to Don and Margaret, telling them that I wasn't sure this was the same Rodeway Inn, but either way, the vibes were probably different 44 years ago. But good ol' Mr. Day informed me that back then, the Rodeway Inn was in Garden City. You might know it now as the Riverside Hotel.

Please enjoy this catty exchange about grammar from Idaho's 1890 constitutional convention.
Transcript:
MR. AINSLIE: Mr. President, I don't see the necessarily of improving on the language of New York lawyers. What is the object of changing these things, I don't know. That is exactly the term used in the New York Constitution.
MR. MAYHEW: Why, it is plain to be seen; the gentleman wants to get a noun in there.
MR. AINSLIE: Well, I propose to follow New York as close as I can.
MR. WILSON: I don't propose to follow anything.
