TotalEnergies is Europe’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer (3x more than it's next rival!) But 71% of TotalEnergies' LNG into Europe in 2025 came from the US and Russia – while Putin and Trump attack and threaten Europe.

I’m not sure Apple’s new “sleep score” is all that smart. I went to bed at almost 1am after hours of late Zoom calls.

On June 16, EU ministers discuss Europe’s energy security. More #LNG means locking us into climate chaos & insecurity. #TrumpGas, #PutinGas, or any gas = harm to health, planet & frontline communities. It’s time for a just transition—no to fossil fuel traps. #PhaseOutGas

Why humming? Because unlike at previous @UNFCCC #climate conferences, UN security would not allow people to shout, chant, or sing outside the plenary. So people chose to hum the rhythm of the protest chants they would have used.

A tiny sample of the wonderful people and their messages during yesterday's humming rally after the #PeoplesPlenary at #COP29. Stop fuelling genocide. Pay up. End fossil fuels. Pay up. Stop carbon markets. Pay up. Phase out. Pay up. #climate #climatejustice #payupforclimate

The ‘Gas Exporting Countries Forum’ pavilion at #COP29 is basically the same as having a “cigarette exporting countries club” stand at a conference on lung cancer. And their posters are just as dishonest as you’d expect.

This is remarkably, bizarrely wrong. Twitter-prominent right-wing conveyancing lawyer takes a break from helping people sell houses to redefine New Zealand's constitutional law. There's no distinction in law between a "political" and "legal" constitution. Our constitution may...

New Zealand's inexperienced #climate minister @SimonWattsMP says New Zealand won't be criticised for reopening offshore oil and gas at #COP29, and says it's consistent with our @beyondoilgas commitments. It's not. You can read them yourself.

With all respect to @MichaelGerrard, I don't think it's quite right to say only misleading advertising cases have "broken through". The Shell case is the clearest example, but there've also been several smaller wins on permitting etc. Perhaps he's referring to damages claims?

And, going from the American Petroleum Institute's response here, Big Oil doesn't like being sued very much. Which feels like a great reason to sue them more. Importantly, Meyers alleges that these lawsuits are a "coordinated campaign" – but provides no evidence of coordination.

RNZ is really telling on itself today, huh? In the same day that they run a story about media failing to fact-check government announcements, they run a story about the government's fossilised energy announcements today, repeating Luxon's spin and falsely hyping LNG. Sigh.

Six of the eight largest western-owned international oil and gas companies have explicit goals to grow their oil and gas production this decade. This production growth is consistent with a scenario of 2.4ºC or worse in global heating.

Yesterday, @antonioguterres called out "the Godfathers of the #climate crisis": the fossil fuel industry. The reality is that there is no evidence that the industry that has done the most to cause this crisis has any intention to be part of solving it. Governments must step in.

A whole lot of folks posting reckons about New Zealand's electricity market about now might find this classic @PriceofOil graphic helpful. Industry wide, there's usually a 9 to 16 year time lag from exploration to full scale production even where there is a new oil or gas find.

The paper summarised in this @radionz article doesn't say what RNZ says. Its finding is much worse: not "could reduce average incomes by 19 percent" but "the world economy is committed to an income reduction of 19% within the next 26 years independent of future emission choices"

It's that the unseated Labour candidate, Damien O'Connor's response wasn't to condemn this undemocratic, bullying, big business trick, but to say he already agreed with them and wanted to back their mining on conservation land! What's @nzlabour for, again? Someone remind me?
