Forget renting, they want to bring feudalism back. You're gonna be the property of your landlord

I'm not arguing for the continuation of the empire, but for the survival of the people suffering within it. Slavery was not ended through peaceful resistance

How so? The tree of liberty requires watering with the blood of tyrants or something like that, right?

I think it's important people are at least aware of the situation they are in. And I wouldn't dare suggest a head on fight. Mandela won a Nobel peace prize, but the overthrowing of apartheid wasn't a peaceful process. Even he understood the need to meet authoritarians on terms they understand

What morality? These people have been whipped into a frenzy for decades being told they are fighting inhuman monsters. Are we watching different videos of masked goons gleefully slamming people to the ground and shooting journalists? We can worry about their morality when they've been disarmed

One of the most corrupt countries*

Power corrupts, power is corruptible. What's needed is to remove the tyrants from power and break down the oppressive structures that exist. Doesn't matter if you resist violently or non-violently if the same power structures are still in place. You can't fight Nazis by not fighting

You mentioned South Africa earlier, and its supposed non-violent overthrow of the apartheid government (way more complex than that) and now we're one of the most complex countries with the highest wealth inequality in the world, so how does that help either?

I'm cherry picking a relevant extreme and applying it to the material conditions at hand. We're talking about the collapse of the most powerful empire known to man, not a small nation state

Fair enough, do you think those same methods will work against fascism? Because we know how the last batch of fascists had to be taken out of power, and it wasn't through non-violene

While I do acknowledge some of these are good examples, idk if we can say non-violent Danish resistance to the Nazis is what ended the war... What ended the war was people fighting Nazis. Nazis do not respect non-violence, it just makes us easier for them to exterminate.

Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) @davidwelman.bsky.social · 30/09/2025
Do we have prior evidence of non-violence being a viable strategy to oppose fascism and brutal authoritarianism?

I used to work for AWS and there was always a push to dogfood as much as possible, because if it's not good enough for us to use why would we let customers use it?

If Bioware is even allowed to continue making games. This purchase comes with $20 billion in debt and I don't think they plan on paying that off with single-player RPGs

Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) @davidwelman.bsky.social · 27/09/2025
Absolutely. While the ideologies of the monarchies may not have been that different from what became fascism, they were not fascists. Just comes across as more American cope claiming they have a long storied history of fighting fascism when it was only once and they almost sided with the fascists

Pandrogynous Cutie (they/them) @davidwelman.bsky.social · 27/09/2025
It's not an incorrect statement though. The morals of WW1 are a lot more grey than WW2 and boiled down to a lot of bored aristocrats with big armies wanting more land. Imperialist, yes, colonialist, yes, authoritarian, yes, but fascism was yet to fully form as an ideology until after WW1.

Expecting the free market to fix all problems is a major issue that you've highlighted here. This works in a closed factory environment, and it's also how it should work in general. But what we get now is coal miners demanding we keep burning coal, because ultimately they have to pay for new skills

They're raised being told that the world is there's and everyone around them owes them everything for their overwhelming mediocrity, then they grow up and face pushback and adversity and see it as being robbed of their birthright I was raised like this, I was on the pipeline, I got out just in time

What are you on about? The artists have been paid, you're stealing from an evil mega corporation, something they already stole by criminally underpaying said artists. You made it sound like some insurmountable obstacle to stop supporting Disney, my apologies

I think a big part of why things have gotten so fucked up with the economy is this insistence on direct profit. Education and public transit aren't supposed to make money for their own sake but rather to empower people to strengthen the economy in other areas. The vultures have killed us.

choosing to organize society around a system of exploitation and oppression that prioritizes consuming the cheapest trash imaginable at the highest possible cost makes perfect sense if you're a psychopath
