Is an exchange based approach?

A considerably more appropriate firearm.

His clever strategy has placed the Brexiters in a corner which is difficult for them to defend.

Did the issue arise when Keir Starmer effectively expelled the Momentum faction, leading them to join the Greens?

It is a good game to test them against historical facts and when they get it wrong tell them.

Moved from Conservatives to Reform?

David @daviduknorthwest.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
I believe they are aware of this. It resembles the Cameron–Osborne strategy during Gordon Brown’s consideration of an early election, although they never intended to apply it. Not sure about Badenoch though.

Germany and France have fallen out so makes sense.

Burnham clearly understood his strategy when he threw that political brick into the Westminster pool. The move, paired with PR, sent the right-wing media into a spin.

Iain Dale has captured the conference with clarity: it is flat. The one-nation Conservatives have kept their distance. Badenoch’s policy offers reheated Thatcherism, lacking original thought.
020
David @daviduknorthwest.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It is Thatcherism poorly reheated as Badenochism, and they are too slow to recognise that Thatcher sold the country’s assets to keep it going; McMillan predicted failure, and he was correct because the same approach failed in the 1920s and 1930s. A century later, we are trying it again!

Fraser Nelson is right on one count: the Conservatives can no longer argue “well they will be worse” after the last decade; arguably, they have produced no new political thinking since Thatcherism. At present they are rebranding it as Badenochism, likely hoping it goes unnoticed.

David @daviduknorthwest.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
All Badenoch offers is a reheated Thatcherism in a different suit. Fraser Nelson identified the issue: the Conservatives cannot keep relying on “well they will be worse” to secure elections after the last decade. They require a fresh strategic approach beyond 50-year-old warmed-up Thatcherism.

David @daviduknorthwest.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Badenoch is merely rebranding Thatcherism. The claim that Milton Friedman’s free-market economics failed the majority to favour a minority remains one of the most disputed issues in modern political economy. Introducing a policy for the wealthy minority simply reinforces a return to Thatcherism.

As it come back into public ownership yet?
000
David @daviduknorthwest.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Having observed Milton Friedman’s economics falter under Thatcherism and Reaganism, while economically successful nations have relied on Keynesian economics since the war or adopted it to address their difficulties, her proposal appears to repeat Thatcherism. This suggests no new ideas since 1979.
000
David @daviduknorthwest.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Clearly Andy Burnham is into Keynesian economics, which is terrifying the right and their media after their failure of following Milton Friedman.

Between 1835 and 1841, Peel adopted a strategy of non-factional, moderate opposition. Rather than blindly opposing everything the Whig government did, the Conservatives acted as a responsible "check" on power. Peel positioned the Conservatives as the competent alternative. Badenoch the opposite?

Possibly working on the principle if she says it often enough it may come true.

I wonder if the Democrats take the House and Senate, how long will he last? Undoubtedly, Trump will throw him under the bus to save himself, and the GOP will distance themselves so fast your head will spin.

It does pose the question: are there any political intellectuals left in the Conservative Party after Johnson and Truss? Clearly not politically thought through, given all the running around this morning.

Well, no shock there; hopefully the police will be more intensive with their investigations.

Indeed, those ideas haven’t been thought through and have failed under easy cross-examination by the Times.

Have a look at Claude Duncan; it’s being used by the financial industry for asset management but with no direct connection to systems, yet. AI progress often described as a "Hyper Moore's Law" grows at an exponential rate that cuts that doubling every 3 to 4 months.

Certainly, the speech carried considerable weight, whether or not people agreed with it. He set the political agenda for the next election. The right has since panicked, as they struggle to respond.
110
David @daviduknorthwest.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
The key concern may be how young people respond during another referendum. Previously, they were indifferent, but they might accept the Euro and Schengen more easily as a requirement for the benefits, which could frustrate the right and its media.

The use of the push bike is more relevant for true operational mobility of the Wehrmacht or than a horse.

His speech has undoubtedly provoked panic among the right and their media outlets. They appear uncertain how to respond. This seems to have been the intention.

I get the impression AB has terrified the right to death because they realise his proposals are totally possible if he gets all his ducks in a row. It has been done before.

I would have thought they would realise that still rolling out Liz Truss is not the most sensible strategy.

According to the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford, (FCDO) managing roughly 4,580 prisoners abroad. As of June 2026, there were 10,134 foreign national offenders (FNOs) held in custody in prisons across England and Wales. Not sure where 40,000 is coming from.

To be fair, he has been saying that. The issue lies with Westminster political correspondents, whom he avoids, as they seek material to validate their roles.
