Gene Roddenberry previewed Star Trek at the 24th World Science Fiction Convention (also known as Tricon), held on Sept. 1-5, 1966, by showing its pilots. Additionally, he also brought a couple of people who worked on the show and some other goodies, including a few costumes… and he wore one.

The Klingons don't sing, only the Enterprise crewmembers. According to Bixby's outline, "The Klingons are bewildered, but obedient to Kor's intercom order to cease fighting." I guess the Klingons just stand around and watch.

The Star Trek Original Series episode “Day of the Dove” was in front of the camera 58 years ago today. Fun Facts: In Bixby’s original outline, Kor (not Kang) was the Klingon antagonist and the crystal entity was finally defeated when Kirk had the crew sing the Federation’s “Peace Day” song.

…three Yonadan guards, played by stuntmen, are using their swords to sweep away the footprints from the dirt after the landing party was subdued and brought to the interior of Yonada. They did this to hide the presence of the People (on the surface).

The Star Trek TOS third season episode, “For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky,” was filmed 58 years ago. Here’s the top of a call sheet and a film frame from the episode, the latter removed from the end of a scene in Act I, during editing. If you’re wondering what the frame shows,…

I always resist tooting our horn but this is what we’ve been working on for the last two years. There are hundreds of pictures in it of documents, behind the scenes action, and historic objects, the majority of which haven’t been seen before. It covers the TOS time period of ca. 1964-1973.

One of my favorite Star Trek Original Series episodes, "The Deadly Years," was in production 59 years ago today. There are two interesting things about this picture (from a film frame): 1). Bill McGovern, the 2nd Assistant Camera operating the slate, is standing on a plywood sheet used to create...

This rule states that the camera must stay on one side of an imaginary line between two interacting characters to maintain spatial continuity and correct eye lines. Flopping the shot of Lal and Thann saved the day, else it would appear as if Kirk and Lal were not looking at each other while talking

The Star Trek: The Original Series episode “The Empath” was in front of the cameras 58 years ago today. Here is a photo of a slate from that episode (left) and a screenshot (right). Note that they flopped the shot in the episode because they broke the 180-degree rule of filmmaking.

It was supposed to be even cuter. In the first draft script (April 20, 1967), the Enterprise was lured away by two pretenders. Here's a script extract that mentions the other ship:
A script extract from "Friday's Child" that mentions the Larkin.

Sorry for being obtuse. The scan that you show is an excerpt from a photo of an entire document, located in the UCLA archives, taken by Michael at FACT TREK. It’s one of many that were snagged from him, without permission, that wound up in a database.

Leonard Nimoy, March 26, 1931 - February 27, 2015. On an overcast and rainy day in April 1967, before Star Trek's second season started filming, Mr. Nimoy gave an outdoor performance in Agawam, MA. He sang, played his guitar, read poems, told stories, and answered questions from the audience.

Got it. I have a 5-yr old LCD TV that works well with the 2600 using its RF output on channel 3. I'm sure it's not as nice as your Trinitron though. I'm thinking of "upgrading" to a vintage 7800 so that I can play Xevious, Donkey Kong (with more than two levels), and Pole Position 2.

Camera setup B indicates it was the third camera placement and/or lighting change since the master shot typically didn’t have a letter. Thus, the slate says 105BB.

David Tilotta @davidtilotta.bsky.social · 12/12/2024
This is actually scene 105B, camera setup B. During the script revisions, it was decided that several new scenes needed to be added between scenes 105 and 106. In order to preserve the scene numbering in the existing script, they used letters following the number 105, i.e., 104A, 105B, etc.
