Fun Nottingham fact. While in town for @mayhemfilmfestival.bsky.social it’s also the perfect time of the year for some deer watching at Wollaton Park. I got to meet these lovely animals today.

It’s #lastfourfriday First half is #hooptober with Friday the 13th VII: Jason vs Carrie and the most obscure Stephen King adaptation you’ll ever see. It has musical numbers! 💃 Then two Douglas Sirk dramas from before he escaped to Hollywood and was still developing his style. #filmsky #Letterboxd

It’s #lastfourwatched time This week I’ve been finishing off my rewatch of the Showa era Godzilla films. They really fixed the decline in quality by adding Mechagodzilla. And also my first watch of #hooptober with Tim Curry traumatising us with genuinely scary dad jokes! #filmsky #Letterboxd

It’s time to start my #hooptober watch, and I’m starting with a stone cold classic from 1990, Stephen King’s IT! Loved the book, so I’m sure this will be a blast. I’ve only seen clips of Tim Curry’s performance so I’m eager to see them in context. #filmsky #Letterboxd boxd.it/WVs2G

I’ve been siloing films for spooky season and now it’s time to unleash them! Hopefully I can squeeze in all those Nordic chillers I found and that arthouse Iranian folk horror I discovered. I do love the deep cuts people put in their lists. #hooptober

It’s #lastfourwatched time! This week we have a couple of shorts from Georges Méliès as he hand crafts cinema and it’s language, another hand crafted work from modern China that’s dominating at the box office and communist Germany reinvents the western. #filmsky #Letterboxd

My favourite independent #physicalmedia group is currently @refusefilms.bsky.social This is a company that really cares about the films that it’s releasing. For their Troma collection I haven’t seen this amount of extras since the early days of DVD. Plus it’s the best place for really indie film. 📀
Three Blu-ray cases on a wood surface. They are for the films My Bloody Banjo (2015), Eating Miss Campbell (2022) and The Toxic Avenger (1984). The first two have a sticker showing that they are #84 of a run of 666.

It’s #lastfourwatched time! First I had some John Carpenter comfort food with one of his most under appreciated films, with a delightfully Nigel Kneal style story and hobo Alice Cooper. Then a triple bill of obscure Sammo Hung films, two of which I hadn’t heard about before. #filmsky #Letterboxd

Speaking of Akira Kurosawa he is my most watched director thanks to that retrospective series on his samurai films. There’s a good mix of modern and classic directors here thanks to The Watershed putting on wonderful retrospective screenings of classic cinema.

Most watched actor is Nic Cage, which is appropriate as The Watershed showing Mandy was what first got me through the doors the first time. Tied with Laurel and Hardy thanks again to Slapstick fest. Plus lots of faces from Slapstick, and the Kurosawa retrospective from 2025.

Looking at genre stats drama 🎭 is at number one. Which is interesting as I consider myself a horror guy. Guess The Watershed has helped expand my cinematic horizons. The US and the English language dominate also. I have no idea what is happening with themes and nano genres.
