I don’t expect people to look at politicians as people or to understand their behavior as often determined more by structural factors than individual virtues or vices but come ON guys, like, maybe the interest groups emailing you to get you whipped up over their issues are the actually the bad guys.

Chatted with some normal non political Berkeley people and it is WILD to me the way people will say we want leaders who look at the facts, who focus on results, who aren’t beholden to this interest group or that and then when someone actually is that in their core, they hate hate hate that person.

It’s sort of funny that the progressive desire to ameliorate historic injustices gets confused with empathy, when in reality if you spend much time in progressive spaces you see that having that kind of politics and having pro social traits like empathy (or basic respect) are really not correlated.

Yeah it only affects buildings above 85 feet, which sucks (and might kill private development of high rise buildings in some jurisdictions) but the vast majority of what gets built fits under there. They also put she guardrails on what kind of labor standards you can apply.

Safe streets are a *core* function of government along with police, fire, and street paving. Some things are more peripheral but safe streets are not deferrable or only for when times are good - they are urgent and essential, now.

The problem with this here is that it reinforces the mistaken belief that there are easy solutions to our problems but corrupt, greedy politicians stand in the way. Can’t speak to Seattle but I don’t think we can generalize from Zohran’s “delay pension contributions” and “get a state bailout” plan.

The worst is when someone posts a crayon drawing of a fantasy trolley map, like if they would have built that shit in the 70s when they should have my life and childhood would have been *completely* different. Even now the trolley goes up to UCSD, that would have been life altering for me.

So if AC Transit had to get rid of at large seats to go fully district based because of California civil rights law, would that also apply to the Rent Stabilization Board? Because if the Board moved from all at-large to all district based, that could have a big impact on how that agency operates.

This is the second time in just a few months that something has come out of the AC Transit board that makes clear they *really* do not give a shit about the Brown Act, and my thing is, does it actually have teeth? Because most ppl who are subject to it bend over backwards to comply.

Yeah we do have a tendency to do that, or I think it’s less that we generalize intentionally but when we make statements of fact, we implicitly mean in California.
