David Plunkert @davidplunkert.bsky.social · 02/10/2026There once was a justice in Maine who enabled a mad president’s reign The Constitution…..he fucked….neighbors told John he sucked! He thought “what gives them the right to complain?" 021
David Plunkert @davidplunkert.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Bad enough that so many states still have a death penalty .... that they try again immediately after failing at the first attempt is medieval. 000

David Plunkert @davidplunkert.bsky.social · 06/09/2026It was gone at the design studio I worked at anyway. But the Macs were still ungodly slow at the time. The last time I used a stat camera was at another studio helping out a friend in 92. I started working for altweeklies in 93, and they always wanted live art as I recall. 000

David Plunkert @davidplunkert.bsky.social · 13/08/2026It was apparently "lost" when the building was demolished. Ben Shahn murals face the same fate in DC. Tragic, but considering how much beautiful architecture gets razed in the US it makes sense that developers wouldn't care much about murals regardless of who did them. 210

Someone said his stuff was "mean" or some such, and the instructor who had mounted the show replied "for political cartoons to have a point they have to have teeth." David Plunkert @davidplunkert.bsky.social · 03/07/2026I love them both... but I think 2001 is graphically stronger/stranger. I didn't pass up any Marvel Kirby book in the late 70's... they were their own weird thing. 100
David Plunkert @davidplunkert.bsky.social · 03/07/2026In 76 the Bicentennial was definitely not presented as a production mounted by and in tribute to the sitting president. I read Kirby's Bicentennial Battles on a long trip to the beach that summer. It's funky, odd, and earnest. 80 pages of all-new art was pretty special. 170

David Plunkert @davidplunkert.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Byrne makes a few salient points about work-for-hire in that article, but how fairly Marvel was treating it's current star freelancer in 1981 is kind of a moot point. Kirby went to work on a handshake deal at a struggling family-owned place and argued that promises were broken when they sold. 010
