Common knowledge that World Vision and some other orgs operate with extremely high overhead; a small fraction of donations make it to the field. I certainly did not know this: the first 6-12 months of that $39 donation covering nothing but the band/label/pRiVaTe EqUiTy(!!!) promoters’ fees.

The complaint alleges that charities such as World Vision pay musicians between $200 and $500 for each new sponsor who signs up at a concert.

The joy does not fit in words of stopping on the way to preschool to look at birds. The 5yr old took the lead with a small pair of binoculars, while I IDed birds she didn't know and tried to just see what she saw. Geese are beautiful! Tadpoles are a thrill! Why is poop white??!?

Didn’t get the needed week, but a few hours on one of my favorite hikes worked wonders. Varied landscape. Waterfalls and birds were most of the noise. Saw my first hooded warbler. Muscles just the right amount of sore after to feel the post-hike pint was well earned.

Children don’t see “love your neighbor as yourself“ as politics but as an obvious good. The hardest thing about growing up is learning there is an opposing side to this. Fred Rogers prepared children for the moments that growth is needed. (and rejected entertainment as framing purpose of his show)

Enjoyed the evening yesterday in a state park with the animals more at peace in human proximity than just about anywhere I’ve experienced (including this park previously). A hawk 50ft away, a heron 20ft, a deer 10ft—each just chilling. (The hawk flew after a couple minutes; the others saw me off)
