That was a slog, and it's probably still a bit of a mess. I hit 40k the other night but had to rewrite parts I already wrote because I forgot a major part. Stitched together, and passed 40 K again. I guess I join PCA ( @chicagocubbies.bsky.social ) in the 40/40 club (lol). Here is "Cubbie Blue"

I may have figured out a long running email issue. Time will tell. Going to write and try and get over 40k tonight. Last two nights was busy with book design. Also took this photo and it turns out to be a Cuban Tree Frog - had to report invasive species to the NC Wildlife folks.

Tomorrow I should cross that 40,000 word border. Tonights's crossing of 39k felt like filler, or back story, and it's one of those points in a book where you aren't sure if it will stay as-is or if you'll do it differently in the revision, but it moves forward. Pants is not worried.

Passed 38,000 words. Updated our bulk document with the Anthropic settlement and filed it. Mowed the back patio - we have a guy who mows, but we have a patio of pavers that has to be done by hand. Played with cats. Ordered books for authors. Here is BLUE (the new cat) surprised at my output.

Went running today... touched grass.

A Mocking bird hindg in the branches of a tree. He's peeking out around one and giving me the sideye. He was LOUD.

Long country road between fields of (I think) soybeans.

35,000 words behind me and some scenes I truly love materialized. It's fun being back in the world of Old MIll, NC. I try not to make these formulaic any more than required. Each book stands alone, and the characters and situations aren't shallow. I hope. Not for me to judge. I'd drink with Cletus.

#Caturday #Catpile I had to get up early because I needed an Alka Seltzer. Instead of going back to bed I thought, I'll just lay back in my recliner. Then this happened.

My lap, and four cats. Didi, the fluffy calico Scottish fold is flopped in my lap looking disgusted because the gray kitten, Blue, is attacking her (like she always does). Behind Blue you can see Clara, a round puffball of a short-haired Persian with orange ears and a couple of orange markes on her forehead, she is turned away, pressed against my leg and on the left Sir Thomas has joined the party... he's a big, Maine Coon looking boy with light cream fur, some tabby marks on his head and a white beard.

The novel passed 29K tonight. This guyw as with me most of the time. This is a picture from the other day... he was laying up against my leg. Sam Francisco is one of the two cats most bonded to me. (Maybe three). He's an old guy we rescued from the porch.

The editorial team working on my new novel. We have ten in the house and one who lives in the garage (he gets too stressed).

An office chair with fold-down sides so cats can sit on them. I'm seated at my desk with Blue (the tiny gray kitten, Sam Francisco (the scraggly old "Scar" looking rescue cat and Didi, the calico Scottish Fold without the genetic tic that folds the ears. They have made actually pullin up to the desk impossible.

The short week is coming to an end. Crazy stupid things have filled the internet daily, getting crazier and stupider. I passed 28,000 words tonight. I have been keeping up with my 1000 or more words a day for a while now, and the story is coming to life. There are three cats on the bed. Life is OK.

Blue, the gray kitten with a lightly striped tail, asleep beside me on my cat-friendly chair while I write. She is cured up on a pink bath towel I use to keep her from scratching the pleather.

27,000 words in the rear view mirror and a new twist has given me a real emotional hook... a villain who was drawn into the dark side of the story that should not have and a potential hero arc that did not exist. Even Pants was shocked!

This is that teacup. I believe it's Japanese, a Napco? It was old in her collection 60 or so years ago when I first drank from it.

A decorative teacup, gold gilt handle, lavender swirl pattern with altnerating lavender panels and panels with colored roses, a white base - the saucer has roses in the center and a lavnder ring around the rim that has cut outs in a sort of peanut shape.
