That lot had a sideways collective sense of humour. The OS was never intended as a commercial proposition, it was a genuine research project. Eventually there was a release aimed at other researchers.

First digital machine I built and *owned* was an MSI 6800 system

Well, leaving aside slide rules, first "programmable" machine was a Heathkit analog machine bought by my school. Used to demonstrate it at parents evenings.

Photo of a mechanical rotary calculator branded Walther. Hand cranked - you turn the handle to do an addition and the other way for a subtraction. You can slide the carriage to make multiple additions necessary for multiplication.

My university had these when I went there to study Computer Science...

There are electronic analog machines and mechanical digital ones...
Photo of the front panel of a Heathkit EC-1 analog computer with the plug connections for the 9 valve operational amplifiers taking most of the space.

I built one of these from a kit while at school in the 1960s.

Sally Solomon, played by Kristen Johnson, in 3rd Rock from the Sun.

A rather curvy lady who is the human disguise for an alien and doesn't like being female, at least to start with.

The stories about the Kzinti. But back to more "ordinary" cats: The Game of Rat and Dragon. OF COURSE we recognise the irony, but how can we resist?

My cat has, on more than one occasion, brought in a live rat. They're buggers to catch. You wouldn't think it of him, would you?
