We made a spooky social game of friendly exorcisms! All on one petrifying pamphlet, for a paltry price point. #game #papercraft #spooky #ghosts #socialgame

Okay here are some more a few scenes later: the labels on the bottles behind Winky are all references to animation legends: Friz Freleng, Art Babbitt, and Tex Avery

Humpty Dumpty - just about every animation studio has done their take on this classic nursery rhyme character, but I bet they’ve never shown how he chugs a beer!

Black and White Wolf - Every animation nerd idolizes Tex Avery, and I’m no exception. I don’t think his iconic wolf ever appeared in black and white, but there’s a similar villain in the 1934 Van Beuren short “Sinister Stuff.”

Clark Stable - I like the idea of a character proudly sitting next to his autographed headshot. I tried to give Clark Stable the same suave grin and large ears as Clark Gable, but I assume he’s had a less successful career. I guess nobody wanted to see “Gone with the Whinny.”

Dog with Bone Drink - a parody of the Hanna-Barbera Cartoons style, a studio that created way too many dog characters (to name a few: hanna-barbera.fandom.com/wiki/Categor...)

Drunk Tall Mouse (screen left) - somewhat inspired by Mortimer Mouse, featured in the 1946 short “Mickey’s Rival.” When populating the speakeasy with D-List cartoon stars, I thought a shabby mouse would fit nicely.

Newspaper on the wall with headlines “Prohibition Ratified” and “Cartoon Studio Closes” - these two events are essentially Winky’s entire backstory.

I filled this opening shot from our @toonoutanimation.dropout.tv short WINKY'S SPEAKEASY with so many cartoony homages and parodies, I wanted to break down a handful of them (THREAD!) @dropout.tv #animation #cartoons

Another weird LA mascot / statue I wanted to redraw. I think this tooth brushing itself is in Silverlake?

Here's one of the more unhinged clips from the above compilation. You gotta agree: this is content.

Is "Chicken Boy" as well known? Because I also felt like drawing this Highland Park hero.

Redesigning the iconic "Happy Foot / Sad Foot" sign characters for no reason other than it was very fun #losangeles #characterdesign #illustration
