From what I can tell, the average writer sends close to 100 queries before finding an agent (if they find one at all) Don't waste your time pitching to agents who don't represent your genre. It's an absolute waste of time Find agents that are actually looking for YOUR BOOK

🌊Everyone fears for the souls of the drowned.🌊 In this gothic mystery, a horror writer investigates her lighthouse keeper father’s mysterious drowning, only to face a revenant called the Mariner in a decommissioned lighthouse off the coast of Washington State. #WSPit #WSPitS #A #M #H #editorsguide
In a dark and moody photograph, a red headed woman throws back her hair. Text over the image reads: The Mariner. Gothic Mystery. Inspired by The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The novel opening: Everyone fears for the souls of the drowned.
I can see it everywhere on this island. It’s in the small white crosses on the hill above town. In the red beads and whale teeth hung in every window. The way the very trees rear back from the sea.
It’s like they’re all saying: we know you’re out there, somewhere. But don’t come back to us. Don’t come back.
    (Please come back.)
Skana Island is salt in the eye, lemon rind on the tongue, lips pulled back from teeth. And it’s the place my father came at least once a year to stare at the sea, until one day it took him and didn’t give him back.

🖤 Manor With a Mind 📖 Cryptic Diary 💀 Generational Blood Curse 🕯 Gaslight, Gatekeep, Ghosts 🏚 Slow-burn 🖋 Arranged? Lovers? Ghostly Trauma Bonding? 🔥 If the House Doesn’t Kill You, Love Might 🕰 1919 but Make It Haunted ⚰ Who Needs a Dowry When You Have a Death Curse? #WSPit #WSPitQ #A #H #P #Hi #M
A moodboard for The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor. It shows a spooky staircase, a decayed living room, a girl climbing out of a well, a book on fire, a lovely Victorian garden party, and a gothic dinner. There is the phrase "Breaking the curse means losing him forever. Embracing it may damn her soul"The comps for The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor

The House at Watch Hill with its dark inheritance and family secrets

The Hacienda with its unresolved grief, psychological unraveling, an supernatural dread

Crimson Peak with its decaying grandeur, gothic vibes, and betrayed loveThe pitch for The Last Heir of Bradbury Manor:

This 96,000-word story set in 1919 blends the psychological unraveling and creeping dread of THE HACIENDA with the sentient, menacing estate of STARLING HOUSE. Perfect for readers who love haunted legacies, doomed romance, and houses that refuse to let go.

A dying estate. A bankrupt legacy. A suitor offering salvation or a love that could destroy her. A mother’s death shrouded in mystery. A father she can’t trust. A blood curse feeding the manor’s hunger.

Lottie Bradbury must face it all.

Summoned home after a decade at boarding school, Lottie is given an ultimatum: marry the man her father has chosen or face ruin. But when the gardener is found dead on the manor steps, she is drawn into a web of long-buried secrets. His son, Arthur, insists the estate itself is to blame—and that her mother’s sudden death was no accident.

Guided by her mother’s chilling diary, Lottie and Arthur uncover an ancient curse that doomed generations of Bradbury patriarchs to die after the birth of their heir. All except her father. The deeper they dig, the more the curse retaliates, twisting reality, conjuring the dead, and unraveling Lottie’s sanity.

But Arthur has secrets of his own. The closer Lottie gets to him, the stronger the curse’s grip tightens. Because Arthur isn’t just tied to Bradbury Manor. He’s bound to it.

Breaking the curse means losing him forever. Embracing it may damn her soul.

#WSPit #WSPitW #A #H #T Mermaids With An S #WIPSnips readers will be familiar with my nautical-themed, conspiracy body horror #WIP. Wanting to learn more about his girlfriend's hobby, an unfortunate typo leads Will to a website... Maybe the town population isn't dwindling "naturally" after all.
A concrete aquarium. A major setting in Mermaids With An S. Rough sea with rocks showing. Rockfloor Bay is built over flat rocks, that was once lava that cooled in the ocean. An abandoned house with a sparse lawn and an old car out the front. The windows of the house are boarded up and there are a few trees. All the lawns in Rockfloor Bay are dead due to the Australian heat and most houses are abandoned.A plain bedroom that has not been updated since the 80s. William's parents weren't really into home decor, so the house they left him in their will was not very stylish.
