Malys is probably the only game I ever played at length where I never turned the music volume down. Well deserved, @belindacoomes.bsky.social and @actualmontaigne.bsky.social, and thank you so much for your work on our little game. Very proud right now. ❤️

There were definitely some artists who made her look older. I remember when she appeared as a villain in Dazzler (waaay back) and there'd be no mistaking her for a kid in those issues.

After a quick hop from Auckland, I'm back home in Melbourne. Coffee first - I've been on filter coffee and dark roast beans for a week now and I'm desperate. 😵‍💫

Running to catch this flight was so worth it. Not a soul around me, so the seat next to me was available to store all the *stuff* they give you… and I think I slept? I never actually sleep on planes, and this was a long haul too. Just one more short flight to go! 🙌

For once, racing across the Vancouver airport, arms flailing, resulted in me actually reaching my next flight JUST as they were finishing up with boarding. I am out of breath and sweaty but on my way to Auckland. The gate agent said I had no chance -- ha! 😅

I crept down to the basement in my parents’ home, trying to get to the guest room, and - in the darkness - spotted a shape on the basement sofa that gave me SUCH a scare. 😵 Ironically, these were all gifts from me to my Mom.

How do I know this? Because he only does it when they’re outside. My Mom goes over to the garage and shakes her fist up at him, and he just stares at her like “what are YOU going to do?” …and then tosses another acorn.

My parents are at war with a local squirrel who insists on invading their bird feeders, and it’s hilarious. The squirrel throws acorns off the garage roof. They bounce off the patio roof with a thud, and he does this to irritate my parents.

One thing social media teaches you is that, when your feed suddenly fills with heartfelt tributes to someone, it's for the sad reason. RIP Dolly Parton, the opposite of a milkshake duck and consistently restoring my faith in humanity for decades now. 😔

I am waiting to board my last plane. There is a river of caffeine running through me, an endless river upon which I drift into the Halls of Ecstatic Memory. I can see through time.

I don’t normally babbies, but there was this adorb one in the WestJet line bawling up a storm… when I grinned at him, apparently I short-circuited his wee brain because he forgot he was crying. His Mom said “bless you” and proceeded to dazzle babby with the Funny Man. I got giggles, so I’ll take it.

And before anyone gets their back up: yes, I know they need the tips (assuming it gets to them). I'm just really used to Australia now, where they expect employers to pay servers a proper wage instead of letting them dangle it as an ~optional incentive to work harder~

And nothing reminds me more quickly that I'm back in North America than getting prompted to tip the clerk (starting at 15%, and purposefully awkward to figure out how to opt out - particularly with the clerk right there, watching) at an airport food kiosk where I even did my own order on a pad.

I guess I was due some bad travel karma again, but even so - each time I stopped, forced a smile, thought murder, and soldiered on. I'm too tired to be miserable.

And then I get to Vancouver airport - already the Airport of Walking - and every escalator and moving walkway was out of order. We get to our carousel, finally start getting bags and then it stops... also out of order. Good thing I left plenty of time for the layover, because wtaf 😅

Usually @airnewzealand.bsky.social impresses me, but this time? I guess they put us on an old plane - no personal air, so I was boiling all 14 hours, and barely any recline in the back row (despite the woman in front of me practically reclining into my lap), and this was Premium Economy? Yeesh. 😵‍💫

Well, I’m in Australia and tend to avoid American airports like the plague, when I can, although the options here after security are still not great. ☺️

The one thing I enjoy about flying out from Tullamarine is that there’s a Macca’s right next to the security - so I can have a McMuffin breakfast before I head through, where the options become a bit more dubious. Here’s hoping all three upcoming flights are on time. 🙏

I'm a big fan of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but this latest season has been very... high concept? Each episode so far has been a different flavour of the writers going "Wheeeee!" and I find myself thinking that I'd love these ideas more if they were a bit spaced out between regular stuff?

Sure, that too, though I doubt it matters what facts you present to such people. They'll just move the goal post. Sort of like Schroedinger's Wokeness - how a project is only woke until it proves to be a commercial success.

I suspect, in their mind, even if members of the accursed gender outnumber females (remember: must be said like a Ferengi) we are all betas who cower in terror of being me too'd or canceled. So we dance to the tune of the Woke Mob while secretly yearning for the alphas to free us from our captivity.

At the very least, they all felt like they had a reason to be there other than just to be there. It felt very organic. Usually MCU cameos are anything but.

Is it just me, or has the new season of Silo's (understandable) decision to constantly flip back-and-forth between the plot of Shift and the silo drama (most of which is filler and not in the book at all) made it feel so sloooooowww? I love this series, but wow this season is such a slog. 😔

Saw the new Spider-Man. Pretty impressive. Squeezed in no less than four MCU cameos, but still managed to be a heart-felt, character-centric story? And succeeded in making me tear up twice? With stakes that weren't "the world is in danger"? Hopefully Marvel learns the right lesson, here.

I still go from time to time, when I'm bored, just to see how it's devolved. It's like how you can't not look at a car crash. Mostly, I was just amused by how starkly different the reception is there to what I see everywhere else. On Twitter, everyone hates everything always, I guess.

Right? I mean, on one hand it was kinda "What did you THINK you'd get out of that, fellas? Did you forget who she was?" On the other hand? So heartbreaking. Such an excellent scene by Claudia's actress.

It's kind of funny - if you look on Twitter/X, there's nothing but a circle-jerk of seething hatred for the show. You'd think everyone felt that way, if you spent time there. I can nit-pick with the best of them, but this? I think it's worth the time to soak up its vibe. It has plenty to spare.

Watched the Vampire Lestat finale last night. It didn't end like I - or, I suspect, anyone - expected, but overall? What a magnificent adaptation. It took liberties but, like the best adaptations, it still reached to the heart of the material and sometimes elevated it. Such great performances, too.

A lovely Canada Day to everyone back home! I still miss it, some days. I miss the cheese, the plentiful places to park, the bacon, the way people respect your personal space... but most of all I miss my friends. 50 years of Canadian life is never going to go away entirely. ❤️🫎

So why do it? Like I said, for visibility. So you can go to publishers and say "Hey, look at how popular this was on KS! It has a built-in audience ready to go!" Once, that publisher might have said "great!" and given you the rest of the money you needed. Those were good times.

There are a few games (Star Citizen, mostly) which have been fully-funded by KS, but you're right in that, for most, the KS goal is a drop in the bucket. Mostly for visibility and to get the ball rolling. Yet many walk away with the idea that the goal is the entire budget... which is hardly ever so.

Since I moved to Melbourne, every morning I'm greeted by the high-pitched warbling of birds outside. Indeed, their warble has come to represent mornings, to me. I always assumed it was some exotic Australian species, but I finally looked it up and... it's the magpies. 😅

The third episode of the Vampire Lestat is the best one yet, wow! The showrunners are really hitting their stride with the new tone, now. Toronto doesn't deserve to be the setting for it, mind you, but otherwise I'm really excited to see how the rest of the adaptation plays out.

It was cute. I struggled with the plausibility of it all, my brain just didn't want to shut off its questioning and just enjoy it, but it was an inoffensive watch with some delightful moments.

Finished Esoteric Ebb. Think: Fantasy Disco Elysium using legit D&D rules, where your stats (Strength, Dex, etc) are your inner voices that talk to you. Tongue-in-cheek without being goofy, enjoyable story, liked it a lot more than I thought I would at the start. Worth your time.
