Yes but it has to go far beyond ICE and farther back than 2025. This guy was in CBP not ICE and was hired in 2018. Restructure the entire immigration system and make EVERYBODY apply for jobs in the new organizations that will replace them.

ahem... Cuba is every bit as much "the West" as the US is... (as in, (1) obviously "the West" is a social construct, and (2) both the US and Cuba are products the same colonial project) it is almost shocking how cavalierly people in the US dismiss the idea that Cubans could identify as "the West"

How is it that so few "Americans" (USA-ians, that is) know that what we call Latin America was formed as part of the same global colonizing project as our own country?

Yarvin "told me that it would be 'cringe' for him to broadcast his relationship with Thiel—or with Vance, for that matter, whom he met through Thiel around 2015." .. "'He's a really cool guy,' Yarvin said of the Vice-President, who followed him on X earlier this year."

This New Yorker article also mentions the relationship (maybe doesn't headline it, but does mention it more than once). www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Yes, it's clear if you (like me) are cursed having with a trump-translator installed in your brain. It isn't clear from his actual words, though. Two ways to take this: 1) he's an addled speaker in mental decline (true), and/or 2) he purposely speaks in ways that can be easily misconstrued (true?).

Also: how is that any more legal than his (also blatantly illegal) moves to force the US govt to pay for his ads? Isn't the whole rationale behind Super PACs the fact that they are legally forbidden to coordinate with or contribute directly to political campaigns?

Sadly, I can understand his word salad, and he's not saying what the transcript implies. He's trying to say that if we don't "take out" Iran's imaginary nuclear capability, they will be able to "take out" an American city. Let them do that and then the "liberals" will see why the war was necessary.

Yes, they've already pre-interpreted it as an "anti-incumbent mood" and not a "vibe shift" or a "cultural realignment." To make it more than that, we have to push -- really push -- Democrats in office to investigate and, wherever possible, punish the crimes being committed by trumpists.

Very true, but also: you absolutely can "write off" a considerable chunk of Bolsonaro voters as ignorant white racists. Not all of them but quite a few of them.

I had no idea who this guy was but I just happened to watch a few minutes of the Senate GOP witch-hunt trial of Jack Smith and wow, does he ever lie his head off. Made false accusations of perjury against Smith (proven false within a matter of minutes, in fact). No wonder JD finds him "trustworthy."

Incredibly stupid + incredibly tone deaf. How many "stay-at-home parents" (by which he means mothers, 9 times out of 10) stay at home only because they can't afford day care? How many would jump at the chance to join the workforce if they could afford it?

I teach undergrads and I hear you... But I also have to point out that my wife writes middle grade novels and the 10-12 y.o.s who read them are true readers, they pick up the nuances and are excited to learn about the experiences of others. They give me hope.

What's especially funny about hearing this today is that just this morning i read a piece from 10 years ago which logically demolishes the idea of "superintelligence", aka AI. Long but worth a look: idlewords.com/talks/superi...

The USPS case that the guy brings up is a great example: trump is *trying* to use USPS to interfere in the midterms -- and *failing*. It turns out that, no, he does NOT have a 'mechanism' to magically make USPS do his bidding. Not even his pet USPS bureaucrats are able to do it. Trying ≠ doing.

It's also incredibly stupid on its own terms. If it's true that "rich countries" are more productive than "poor countries" then our top short term priority should be improving the lot of currently poor countries, not further immiserating them. The only argument against this is... racism.
