When Austin families are counting every dollar, government should too. At a time when affordability is one of the biggest challenges facing our city, Austin taxpayers deserve to know their money is being spent responsibly. I will bring that accountability to District 5. #DavidForATX

My new ad highlights why accountability at City Hall matters, especially when so many Austin families are feeling the pressure of rising costs. I’ll fight to make Austin more affordable and ensure taxpayer dollars are treated with the respect they deserve. Watch the full ad here:

The proposed Tract 110 development raises an important citywide issue about representation and accountability. Residents deserve to have their concerns heard and responded to. As your District 5 Council member I would prioritize responsiveness and an open-door policy for residents. #DavidForATX

AISD is at a critical moment. With major challenges ahead, we need to build on the progress AISD is making and keep decisions about our schools in the hands of our local community and not Greg Abbott. Read the full article: austinfreepress.org/stay-independent/ #AISD #AustinISD #DavidForATX

Trump’s attack on voting by mail is wrong, un-American, and it affects Austin voters. Thankfully, Travis County is fighting back. I spent four years at the Brennan Center fighting voting restrictions in Texas. I’ll bring that same fight to City Hall. #TrumpVotingRules #VoteByMail #DavidForATX

My heart goes out to the construction worker who died when storms swept through D5 yesterday, and to his loved ones. While I fully support investigations into this matter, this is a reminder that workers who perform critical and hazardous jobs are neighbors who should be embraced and not vilified.

Anthoneil Williams II was an unarmed 17-year-old who was met with more than 20 shots from APD officers during a 911 response. His family deserves justice and accountability. We need better de-escalation training and an independent 911 system. Austin must do better. #JusticeForAnthoneil #DavidForATX

Why did Council rush the Dog’s Head tax subsidy and bypass parts of the usual review process? Follow the money. In my latest article for Austin Free Press, I examine the rushed process and the special-interest contributions accepted by my opponent. #DavidForATX

Here is the full clip of my remarks that made the news. Ryan Alter wants to raise the recall petition threshold from 10% to 15%, making it harder for voters to hold their representatives accountable. This is incumbent protection, plain and simple, and nobody asked for it. #DavidForATX

I urged Council to reject a proposed charter change that would force initiative and petitioned charter amendment elections into November of even-numbered years. It is unnecessary, overly prescriptive, and more expensive. #DavidForATX

Money is corrupting Council’s votes on economic development and land use. Alter criticized how Council handled Dog’s Head, then cast a deciding vote to pass the tax giveaway to Amazon anyway. Austin deserves better. It’s time to vote him out. #DogsHead #DavidForATX
