In Vienna, ready for #EGU2026! I will present a work about forest microclimate, comparing Landsat LST and below canopy air temperature measured by IoT devices! I am honored to co-chair a session about novel methods for bridging understanding of fluxes from leaf to continental scale.

Our analysis of 23 years of satellite data (2001-2023) 🛰️ across Europe's major mountain ranges 🏔️ reveals that global change🥵 is driving elevation-dependent phenological shifts 📈—but these changes don't translate straightforwardly into productivity gains☘️🍀. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Seven years of Sentinel-2 data reveal how Alpine forests respond to extreme events 🥵🥶. Late spring frost damaged mid-elevation beech, while hot drought stressed low-elevation oaks but benefited high-elevation species. Elevation matters for climate resilience🏔️. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Last year, our Forest Ecology group undertook the modeling of current and future distributions of forest tree species 🌲 🌳 in the Province of Trento at a management-relevant scale. Pending manuscript publication🤞, we released scripts, maps, and Damiano's MS thesis at UNIPD zenodo.org/records/17209032

Ecological Niche Modelling of Forest Tree Species in the Alpine Space: a Stacked SDM Approach at Regional Scale
Climate change is deeply altering the structure and composition of forest ecosystems, particularly in mountain landscapes. Ecological Niche Modelling (ENM) provides a valuable tool to estimate the pot...

🚨 Stat tips 🚨 Are you aware of the regression to the mean #RTM effect? This artefact is often overlooked in #ecology & especially in biodiversity resurveys 🌳🍄🦔🦅🦎🦋🐝🐞 It basically shows up each time you investigate changes between 2 time events: t2 vs t1 Let me unfold it for you 🧵

Setting forests aside doesn’t stir up more trouble—in fact, it calms the chaos 🌳 Happy to see my first PhD chapter out! 📝 Setting aside forests for biodiversity conservation does NOT amplify disturbances in temperate forests of Central Europe. besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Setting aside areas for conservation does not increase disturbances in temperate forests
We found no evidence that setting aside forests for biodiversity conservation amplifies disturbances in temperate forests of Central Europe. Conversely, we found that strict forest reserves had lower...
