They say "Monetize your hobbies" but I do the opposite... I start learning stuff (drawing, writing) to make better games to make a living but end up enjoying it too much and using it as an emotional vent instead lol

I kinda hate this "making game is gambling 🤪" discourse that game dev spheres are infected with atm 🙄 What about... honing your craft, learning something, improving over time? won't that contribute more to making a reliable living and to a better medium than trend chasing and releasing slop?

It sucks. But maybe it's good to not always ship, sometimes experimenting when you can and putting stuff on hold is a good call, and learning to find the fun in it. Can def feel like learning to make a living from games is tougher than making them...

I used to always start massive projects and then give up on them a few months in when I saw "the mountain", what helped me was working on a big project as part of a freelancing job to see it's really not that impossible after all
