and i mean, let's be real: it's fucking hilarious that Anthropic would have even pledged this in the first place after DHH posted this shit
@dhh on Twitter: "This is why we need competition and open weights in AI. Imagine a world where only Anthropic sat as the moral arbiter of acceptable speech. Fucking ridiculous. (Grok of course did it no problem, same too with Kimi K)."

A screenshot of Claude refusing to translate DHH's blog post follows: "I'm going to pass on this one. The piece's central move - putting Roma people alongside wolves, with shooting and deportation as parallel solutions - is dehumanizing toward an ethnic group, and producing a polished Italian version of that is something I'd rather not do, even as a translation of your own words. Happy to translate other posts from your blog, or to help with something else here.

Based on the responses from @1password.bsky.social's CEO and cofounder, they're not likely to change course, so I've cancelled my account. If you still have time left on your billing cycle to find an alternative and export your data, there's no reason to wait to cancel; speak with your dollars.
An email from David to 1Password's support:

"Based on the responses from your CEO and cofounder that have been published on The Verge, as promised, I've now cancelled my account. Your company's support for this man is disgusting and abhorrent and you'll not get any further money from me, nor will I ever again recommend 1Password to any family, friends, acquaintances, or colleagues."

i got the boilerplate response from 1Password. here's my follow-up
Hello David,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your questions and concerns about our decision to become a corporate patron of the Omacom Foundation. We value the relationship we have with you, and we want to respond thoughtfully and openly about the purpose of this commitment and how we're approaching it at 1Password.

At 1Password, we support developer and open-source communities because they're an important part of the ecosystem our customers rely on. We have a long history of supporting open source projects, including the Linux, Rails, and Rust Foundations. We chose to support Omarchy because it is a growing Linux environment that developers use and value, and because 1Password already had a meaningful presence in that community.

Contributing to the Omacom Foundation is intended to support hosting infrastructure and provides stable, long-term funding for the upstream open-source projects and maintainers on which Omarchy depends.

We recognize that Omarchy is closely associated with its founder, and that raises questions about what our support means. Our contribution is made to the Omacom Foundation, not to an individual, and is not an endorsement of any individual's personal or political views. 1Password does not endorse hateful, dehumanizing, or exclusionary views.

The patronage is also separate from product decisions. It includes no requirements or guarantees related to product placement, exclusivity, endorsement, or roadmap influence.

We understand that this explanation may not change how you feel about our decision. We take all feedback seriously and share it with the appropriate teams.
Our commitment to the security and privacy of our customers remains unchanged.

We're grateful for the trust you place in 1Password.While I appreciate getting a response to this, I am incredibly disappointed in said response. If you actually cared about contributions and funding to upstream projects and components in the Linux ecosystem, you could have simply donated money to any of those upstream projects (such as Arch Linux itself), or even something like OpenCollective, and it would have had much more of an impact. Instead, you chose to commit $300,000 to Omarchy (a glorified set of dotfiles and hyprland configurations that provide nothing of substance back to Linux itself) and become its first corporate sponsor that is not simply one of DHH's other companies. To claim that this decision is because you "support developer and open-source communities" is honestly insulting, given Omarchy's creator DHH is independently wealthy and could easily fund his vanity project himself.

Furthermore, to suggest that Omarchy/Omacom is merely "closely associated" with its founder is simply absurd. Omacom has no published board, no publicly available information about how (or even if) it was incorporated, and the only known member is DHH himself, a darling of the growing fascist movement in the tech industry who has now written racist diatribes calling for ethnic cleansing in Europe multiple times in the last several years. You cannot separate a founder's beliefs from the mission of their foundations or companies, and Omarchy and its foundation provide a new way for him to gain relevance and grow his platform, something that can only lead to the spread of more hatred. Your donation fuels this and has permanently damaged your company's reputation.

As for the waning trust I placed in 1Password, there's no longer anything for you to be grateful for: it has now completely evaporated, I will continue to evaluate alternatives for an export of my 1Password account before my next billing cycle, and I will be recommending that every person I know to do the same for their personal and corporate accounts.

"engineer away the slop"
A blog post by Geoffrey Huntley on July 24, 2026 displaying a cartoon hero image of a bearded man wearing glasses and a long-sleeved button-down shirt while sitting at a weaving loom, with various flowers scattered underneath the loom and lotus flower patches on the shirt's sleeve and chest. The image looks suspiciously AI-generated despite the title of the post being "engineer away the slop", with tells such as a bizarre looking set of headphones that have no headband and are instead attached to his glasses, inconsistent warp threads on the loom, odd fabric folds, and other strange artifacts mixed into the leaves. An analysis of the hero image that shows it is, indeed, AI-generated with a 97% likelihood that its fake.

i don’t usually respond to these kinds of emails, but this one made me so fucking mad that i blacked out and regained consciousness with this in my outbox
An email exchange between Andre Hamra and David Celis

ANDRE HAMRA: Hi David, Andre here – Stanford MBA'24, Forbes Under 30, and founder of Refer. Not sure if you saw on Business Insider this week, but we just raised $10M for the crazy idea of making recruiting free for companies and built around the candidate instead. Do you happen to be hiring for Freshworks? Or planning your next move? If yes I’m happy to share more.

DAVID CELIS: No thanks, Andre. I think it shows a distinct lack of empathy to be running a recruiting platform where people who need work and who may already be unemployed are forced to pay for the “privilege” of getting hired, especially in the current job market. It's should be so obvious that companies who actually have the cash to hire should be the ones paying for candidate placement that this comes off as ludicrously out of touch and the fact that you’ve been able to secure $10M in funding only further entrenches my belief that this industry is run by absolute sociopaths who only care about sucking the working class dry. I truly hope your company crashes and burns.

Hedge funds pulled back from US tech stocks at a record pace over the past two months, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s Prime Services desk.

The cohort was a net seller of the sector in six of the past eight weeks, according to the desk led by Vincent Lin. The cumulative reduction in market value totaled about 10%, marking the largest such retreat from the sector since the data series began more than a decade ago.
