Not particularly "Appalachian," or "gospel," or "country"—but otherwise sounds great!

Sacred Harp singing isn't particularly Appalachian, but it is a very old tradition.

Not so. Plenty of millennials singing Sacred Harp with great delight, particularly in urban areas. Recent event in Atlanta had 700 people from many countries. Definitely not just an elderly southern thing.

My thought is that the 'line-up" is more dynamic than that. Decisions are made on the fly, depending on how things are going in the room. The Lesson order isn't always known that far in advance.

We sang today at the Mount Zion Sacred Harp singing in Carroll County, Georgia, assoc'd with the McGraw family. Pictured here are Lisa Bennett and Ricky McGraw. Ricky is brother of the late Earlis. Their father was Buford McGraw (476), and their grandfather was H N "Bud" McGraw (453, 483, 544).

I'd venture to say that NONE of the Sacred Harp singers pictured are Primitive Baptists. And Holly Springs no longer has a congregation. It's used several times a year for singing.
