xtralab has been my daily driver for software development for the past few months. It’s JupyterLab with opinionated defaults and pre-installed extensions for working with coding agents. I use it with Claude Code, Codex, and Pi most of the time. jtpio.github.io/xtralab

AnyIO v4.15.0 is out 🚀 A ton of new features in this release: - amap, gather, and as_completed functions to help manage task concurrency. - a Future that mimics asyncio's. With TaskHandle that allows awaiting the return value of a task, there is no reason to use asyncio anymore.

JavaScript libraries do that perfectly so why not use them? We can just have Python APIs and bridge to the JS ecosystem. Ipywidgets do just that although they were initially created for interactive UIs.

With JupyterLite deployments like notebook.link we need to have more code running in the browser. WASM already allows running kernels like Python, R, C++, Fortran... but we still need to go through the browser for remote access.

AnyIO v4.14.0 has just been released! Among (a lot of) other things, it's now possible to await a task to get its return value. If that's what prevented you from dropping asyncio, you don't have any excuse now :)

The nice thing about tdiff is that I use it to develop tdiff :) Anyways, v0.3.0 is out, which drops dulwich in favor of the git CLI. This way tdiff will behave much like `git diff`. The current API is `tdiff git`, with similar arguments. Next step: integrate with `git difftool`?

You can fire but not forget :) Just create a root task group in your async main function and use it anywhere downstream, at least you'll get an exception if anything goes wrong.
000
David Brochart @davidbrochart.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
Maybe it's a bad idea to fire and forget in the first place? It's just impossible to do in AnyIO or Trio, and asyncio is going in that direction too.
