When will the bad takes from people who intermittently discover NI's governance arrangements stop?? The Public Processions Act was enacted months before the GFA, to address this issue as a preliminary. The GFA wasn't meant to tackle this. Also NI Bill of Rights was never enacted as the GFA intended:

No evidence it was aimed at anyone, other than the worshippers at Bayeux, whose minds presumably did not need changing. Just because many people say the Tapestry is propaganda does not make it so.

The Manchester City decision shows the costs of an aggressive litigation strategy How the club’s lack of cooperation and putting forward dishonest evidence have put the club at a disadvantage By me, now without paywall at the Empty City emptycity.substack.com/p/the-manche...
The club is now not in a happy place legally.

Not only has it been found to be in breach of various regulations, the commission ruling uses terms like “sham”, “disguise” and “conceal” in respect of those breaches, on the basis of “strong, cogent evidence”.

But this post is not about that evidence. This post is about what the club did once it knew it faced an investigation about those matters.

It made a decision not to cooperate.

It made a decision to put forward witnesses to provide evidence on key points which was found by the commission to be dishonest.

Those were aggressive decisions the club made once it knew it was in regulatory and legal peril.

And it would have done so knowing the likely consequences of those decisions in the findings of the commission.

Very interesting. I wonder whether the distinction between (not) awarding honours and revoking them will last. I can imagine some high-profile claimant saying everyone knows they were nominated for an honour but didn’t get one - the process was unfair, their reputation has suffered etc

The key seems to be the Miller case, with the advice to the crown being justiciable. This means that every exercise of the prerogative on ministerial “advice” is open to challenge. Only the crown dealing with household and personal matters beyond JR’s reach.

NEW The morality tale of the Bayeux Tapestry The story of the FAFO of Harold Godwinson By me, at @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/culture/7514...
prospectmagazine.co.uk
What the Bayeux Tapestry is really about
Its 70 metres can be reduced to a single acronym: FAFO. For that’s what King Harold, the oath-breaker, did

Anyway, I have written a piece for Prospect on the Bayeux Tapestry as a form of sequential art and as a signifier about constitutional stuff. Many thanks to @marcmorris.bsky.social for prompting and provoking some of the content of the piece.

The Empty City @davidallengreen.bsky.social · 23h
The constitutional point is about forms of legitimacy. William had a weak claim by lineage, literally illegitimate at birth. He was known as 'the Bastard'. But. The oath of Harold provided a legitimate basis for William's claim to the English throne. And oaths were important legal devices. >

The story which unfolds as you slowly walk along is a morality tale. It is the story of an English nobleman, Harold Godwinson, and of his FAFO. About how he freely made an oath - over the saints relics of Bayeux - and broke it. And about what happened to him as a consequence of breaking it. >

Those who devised and compiled the Tapestry would have had no idea of its thousand-year afterlife. They also had no idea if England would be invaded again (1066 just happened to the last of a few conquests). The embroiderers were perhaps telling a story of more immediate import. >

Three things came from this. First, it is something best appreciated at slow walking speed. Alas the crush will make this impossible. Second, it told a story but not the one I saw in history books. Third, the story it told did have some constitutional significance. >

I went to see the Bayeux Tapestry and was lucky enough to avoid the queues and the crowds on a press viewing. I tried to put aside a hundred preconceptions from history books, illustrated plates and internet pics, and to look at it afresh as work of sequential art. >

This ancient Greek figure from the 2,500 year-old Douris Cup looks uncannily like someone working on a laptop! 😲 💻 He’s actually writing with a stylus on a hinged wax writing tablet! The technology has changed, the posture has not! 😂 Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me
My photo shows detail from an ancient Greek red-figure kylix (drinking cup) of a young man shown in profile seated on a stool facing right. He wears a knee length cloak (himation) over his left shoulder, which is shown in folds around his waist and upper legs. His right shoulder, chest, and arms are bare. His dark hair is short, and he wears a band around his head. He is looking down at an open rectangular wax writing tablet which he is supporting in his left hand above his lap. In his right hand he holds a metal stylus pen poised over the writing tablet. The wooden writing tablet is hinged like a book and, from this angle, resembles a modern laptop. The figure is part of a scene depicting school lessons in ancient Athens, painted by Douris around 480 BC. On display at the Altes Museum in Berlin.

If Nidal Hasan is executed by firing squad, as the Pentagon spokesman says Hegseth and Trump have decided, it will be the first death sentence carried out by the U.S. military since 1961, and the first by firing squad since 1945. www.militarytimes.com/news/your-mi...
Screenshot of a tweet from @SeanParnellASW dated 5 Oct 2026, reading as follows:

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan, the jihadist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009. He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the attack.

The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution. Judgement day for Hasan has finally come.
