First meal was veggie burgers with a stack of grilled veggies. Burned myself a bit with oil, but this will be quite useful this fall.
Four veggie burger patties on the left side of a black griddle with a pile if brightly coloured peppers, onion, and mushrooms on the right and a cooked egg with a broken yoke. The grill has a sheen on it reflecting some light.

Current situation: supporting (and enjoying) the local theatre scene.

Last night I wrote an article about the new stacked pull requests feature from GitHub and shared it along side yet another website refresh. 😅 Spoilers: It's useful. #indiedev #devlog #devops Full details on the blog: david.wes.st/blog/i-used-...

Finished up a great @wpggamecollective.bsky.social event: Press Start 20x20. 8 speakers 20 slides each 20 seconds per slide. No stopping. Really loved this format and the community. Looking forward to the next one!

Fridays are already great, however getting a box of produce from The Odd Bunch makes it even better. All of it fresh produced saved from waste at the grocery store. Love this service! #Winnipeg

Like seriously— huge upgrade. It brings me genuinely joy to have this much hojicha. (Pipe mug for scale)
Two bags of loose tea with HOJICHA hand written on the label. The bags are of the same look, but the one on the right is almost double the size of the one on the left. A green mug that looks like a warp pipe from Super Mario Bros sits in front of the bags.

This is my “It comes in pints?!” moment. Found out I can buy my hojicha in fractions or whole numbers of kilograms AND I am rewarded with a discount when I do so in-store?! I mean, how could you NOT buy half a kilo of tea? Right? Thanks @corneliabean.bsky.social!
An exceptionally large bag of tea with a hand written label that says HOJICHA along with general tea brewing instructions Loose hojicha which looks like a bunch of broken thin pieces of wood in a bag, reflecting off the side

They even had the Ark of the Covenant on display. I left before they opened it. All in all, a solid experience. Would do this again.

Continuing the jams from last night (while staying awake to pickup someone from the airport) I am continuing my journey with the Outer Wilds. Indie web coding, records, and a soda is a great space for me.

Next up: Signals From The Outer Wilds by @andrewprahlow.bsky.social This game might actually be the perfect game in my view. A huge part of that perfection is due to the music. Some songs still give me goosebumps or make me teary eyed.
Vinyl album cover for Signals From The Outer Wilds, whose art depicts father-son friendly six eyed humaniod aliens looking at the stars with a handheld radio telescope in what appears to be an empty clearing in the woods. In the night sky you can see a broken space states and multiple planets and many stars.

A bit of a pivot since the last post, but rather than aircraft I'm focused on the airports themselves. I am calling this project "Kiosk" for the time being, and as weird as it seems-- the design overlaps quite a bit with "Charter", but has a much smaller scope. #gamedev #screenshotsaturday
Screenshot of a debug build of the game ‘Kiosk’ showing a greybox 3D scene. The upper half displays a side orthographic view of a basic kiosk labeled ‘Skyway Kiosk’, with an orange character behind the counter and three green characters positioned nearby. All figures are capsule-shaped placeholders. The environment uses flat grey geometry for the floor and structure. The bottom half of the screen shows a top-down minimap view with green and orange dots representing character positions and a pink rectangle marking the kiosk’s interaction zone. The layout is minimalist, intended for MVP testing.

Yesterday learned more about the legal/business side of #gamedev at a local event. Just a reminder to the other #indiedev folks that there is more to making games than just making games.
A small event space set up for a presentation or workshop. At the front of the room, a large screen displays “NMM New Media Manitoba – GameBiz Lab – Supporting the Next Generation of Local Video Game Studios in Manitoba.” Two standing banners are placed to the left of the screen. One is for North Forge's ElevateIP program, focused on safeguarding intellectual property, and the other promotes New Media Manitoba. Several rows of black chairs face the screen, and a small table with two laptops is set up at the front.

LOL-- well it turns out that animated GIFs don't animate if you upload them through the image function. 😓 Trying it again-- this time with the video actually playable! (Thanks to @sam-aru.bsky.social for pointing it out to me)

Similar to the GIF from earlier for #screenshotsaturday, but put this together to remind me of some of my inspiration for this project. Putting this together put a smile on my face and made me proud of my work. Any Aerobiz players out there? 😄🛫 #indiedev #gamedev

Experimented with a plane rather than a sphere for the earth in the game, and now I can control the camera how I want to-- plus some transitions and a skybox for fun. Focusing on finding the flow and feel for the game to get it towards a playable state. #indiedev #screenshotsaturday #gamedev
A greybox prototype of the flying game Charter. The scene shows a simple green terrain under a blue sky with a cylindrical purple marker labeled “Vancouver (YVR)” in bold text. A debug UI panel on the left displays flight settings, including origin (CYVR), destination dropdown, flight toggle, speed slider, and active camera selection. The player selects the destination to be CYWG and clicks the "Start/Stop" toggle switch, which triggers transition animation where white text and a line move into the screen stating "Prepare for Departure". The player adjusts the throttle control during the flight which changes the speed of the greybox aircraft. When it arrives at the destination city, the transition appears again with the text "Now arriving in Winnipeg".

Trying this #screenshotsaturday for the first time-- This is a greybox prototype of a flight system I have been noodling with for the past while. It's very early days, but things are starting to align with the vision in my head. #indiedev #gamedev #indiegame #godot #godotengine
A greybox prototype flight system is shown in a debug window. The user selects “Vancouver (CYVR)” as the origin and “Calgary (CYYC)” as the destination. Purple capsule-shaped objects represent airports, while a grey cylinder represents the player’s aircraft. Large, tilted text labels each city. Interface elements like “Flight Speed” and “Start Flight” hint at early gameplay mechanics in the works.

Today is a good day. Bought an old video game. Met a friend for a late lunch. Rode a double decker bus. Sometimes you just need to appreciate the simple things.
