"Forty-seven were given Hepa filters for communal areas, and 44 were not." What if... people travel... between private rooms? "Test of smaller bulletproof vest proves bulletproof vests don't work!"

It's a bit of "you have to understand the tool you're using". Grammar checkers don't fix semantic errors either. This stuff is all new enough that it's unreasonable to expect every user to know the ins-and-outs, but I don't want a screenful of "don't use the LCD while driving" either.

I'm sure the server feels terrible. The story says "drove as fast as possible to get an EpiPen". That's a shame the parents didn't carry one at all times, with an 8 year-old. globalnews.ca/news/1187243...

Not "share 77 genes". Share an effect on the expression of 77 genes. (Intersection of 725 and 633). Pattinson's is a disease, not a virus, so it doesn't "have genes".

Meeting on trade with many foreign leaders to open new markets, while trying to negotiate with largest historical trading partner == capitulation. Ok, I see.

Ah, you reworded from "increased by 121%" to "is 121% of what it was". "Increased by 21%" is a much clearer statement. Using 121% in that way is trying to mislead with statistics.

I see you deleted your original reply (in order to orphan my correction?) but didn't correct yourself. That is an increase of 21% not 121%. My original 30-fold did not account for that. Let's adjust my 3000% down to 2979% due to population growth.

No, I *think* is not a substitute for a breadth of knowledge and resources, but a blanket "it's not climate change" doesn't leverage that. It's about as convincing as: Yes, a volcano went off nearby, but don't overlook that animals sometimes lose their desire to breathe.
100
David W Maxwell @david-w-maxwell.bsky.social · 13/07/2025
1 & 2 are good points. 3, I don't believe there's been a behavioral change in Canada comparable to the scale of climate change. 4 is an odd one. People aren't avoiding repellents that weren't widely known or commercially available until recently enough to affect stats.
110
David W Maxwell @david-w-maxwell.bsky.social · 13/07/2025
You said it's unlikely related to climate change. I think climate change is the most significant factor for increase in Canada, but I'm open to counter-arguments or counter-examples.

Unfortunately, most vendors don't have processes that extend much past "asking for a password reset", certainly few have any way to report abusive reset attempts. As long as you aren't using SMS for one-time codes, you can ignore the requests. If you're using SMS, consider using a more secure MFA.

People aren't good at connecting cause and effect when there's a time delay before the effect. There are still many articles like "why has the rate of X increased dramatically?" Until the average person hears otherwise, regularly and consistently, most are assuming "everything is back to normal".
